Alex has very kindly agreed to answer some questions from the fans in this section. I would appreciate it if these questions and answers stay on my site. You can mention them and put a link to my site up if you want to direct people to them. If you would like to send me a question for consideration here, please email me at debbie@alexmaxband.com. We have also brought back the "Questions for Alex" Secton on the Loft so feel free to visit us there and leave your question. I will still be adding one new question a month to this section as well. A few tips...Your question will not be used if it or a similar one has already been answered, so review this section first. Check the Frequently Asked Questions under INFO as well. Also questions that won't be used are "Alex, when are you coming to "insert country here" because although Alex would love to visit all your countries, most of that is out of his control. Be original with your questions and they have a much better chance of getting to Alex :) Thanks for understanding!

Fan from The USA -Hey Alex! I first heard your music when I was 5 years old, and I’ve always loved it. It has gotten me through some really tough times. I do have some questions for you. First of all I'm in the process of revising my book, and I have a goal to find a literary agent by my 14th birthday in February. The process of publication is rather long, so I was wondering, how did you deal with the record labels who delayed some of your music and how did you deal with constantly waiting? Also what is the song, “Fame” about to you personally? When will we hear your music on the radio!?—I can’t wait (: And is there any advice you can give me on my goal to write a book? It’s kind of an impossible dream for a 13 year old, but I have a feeling that it could really happen if I tried. Lastly, I wanted to thank you so much again fro your music, and I wanted you to know that I can’t wait for your album to come out! Good luck and I hope that I can see you in concert sometime soon!!!

Alex -Hey:) Thanks so much for writing to me. Dealing with record labels made things completely impossible to do anything outside of what the label wanted. In the end, I had to legally fight my way out of two major labels, and I not only spent a fortune doing so but also four years of my life. It's all a matter of how bad you want something to happen and whether you are willing to truly do whatever it takes to make it happen. And to answer your question about "Fame," it is about the dangers of fame and how it can change somebody for the worse. As for my music, the first single "Tonight" goes to radio at the end of January. So be ready to start calling your local radio stations and requesting the song!!

Never give up on wanting to write a book. Only you can make it become a reality, and never take the advice of your friends or family... their opinions are biased and that isn't really helpful to get your writing where you will want it to be. Do not think that getting your book published is impossible because you are young, that only adds to the appeal. Good luck with it and be sure to let me know how things go with the publication. See you in 2010! All the love,

The Lofters on the Message Board & Debbie- Hey Alex, This is the second question from the fans at the Alex Band Loft. We all know that "Tonight" is going to be the first single. What exactly does a "release" mean in the US? Is there a single date that happens and will the single be available for purchase on ITunes or another online downloading site? How does the song go to radio and how does it get "worked". Now that you have announced that it will also be released in other countries, how does the process differ for other countries. Enlighten us :) We want to be fully armed and ready to go in January! Thanks!

Alex -Hey Everyone!! I'm just as excited as you are about the single releasing sometime in late January! A release here in the US means the song will be brought to radio stations and my team and I will work to get it played and get it played A LOT. It will also then be available on iTunes for everyone to purchase. In order to "work" the song at radio, my team and I go to the stations all over the country and push the song. Most of the stations will have me go on air and play a few songs acoustically live and do a short interview. The better the song does and the more calls the stations receive, determines how often it will be played and for how long. That's when you guys come in, Ill need your help as much as possible to drive the most important radio stations crazy!

In other countries, EMI is in charge of working the stations and releasing a single for me. It will most likely start in Germany and branch out from there. It is also up to them what song becomes the single, so at this point it may not be "Tonight", it could be "Euphoria" or something else. Hopefully it does well enough here in the US that it carries over to all the other countries! Good success here is a huge factor in success internationally.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and I can't wait for everything that's going to start happening in just a couple months!

Gennelin from the Philippines - Hi Alex! Gennelin here again from the Philippine Street Team. It's been four years since I last got in touch with you and I just thought it's time that I ask a few questions again..;) Since you have performed a million times, have you ever had the perfect concert experience you've been thinking of? If yes, where? If not, what's that perfect concert setting that can give you goosebumps? Secondly, if you are to dedicate a song for your beloved fans, what would that be? (any song you've written or sung) Lastly, do you have any hidden talent aside from singing? That's it. Hope to see you soon. We're looking forward to seeing you perform here live. ;)

Alex -Hey Gennelin, Looking back over the years and all the concerts I have played I would say that one of my perfect most memorable concerts was one I played in London. I only played 3 songs if I remember correctly, but it was in front of 120,000 people. All of them were singing along to my songs and it was an amazing feeling! As far as a song dedicated to the fans, I would probably have to say "Last Goodbye" would be one. I had all of my fans and my career in mind when I wrote the song. Let's see, hidden talents... That's a tough one! Not sure how many of you actually already know this, but I am a licensed helicopter pilot and have been for 3 years! Not many people can say that right? :) Say hello to everyone in the Phillipines for me. I know I will make it there someday soon. All the love,

Adriana from Brazil -Hey Alex! How are you? I’m Adriana, from Brazil :) First of all (as everyone) I want to tell you how much I love your job! You had really changed my days with your great music, your perfect voice, your huge talent... Neeever give up on this! We will always support and love you :)And now my question... Its about religion. I’ve already heard that you’re both catholic and jewish because of your family, but I would like to know more about your beliefs... Like if you really believe in Christ or something else. And I would like also to know if Bono (as you’re a big fan of him, and he talks a lot of Jesus) have ever influenced you in this kind of thought, or only in musical stuff? Thank you for being so kind with us fans and thanks for your smiles (they bring me a kind of peace). I can't wait to meet you... All the love ;)Ps.: I looooove to see the way you and your talent grow over the years, congratulations :)

Alex -Hey Adrianna, Thank you very much for all your kind words! Music is my life so you don't have to worry about me ever giving up on it. :) As far as my religious beliefs, I have never been influenced by Bono or anyone else in the media. I was raised without religion and do not believe in any specific religion. I do however believe that there is a greater power out there and that we are all on this Earth for a reason. On my upcoming album I actually wrote a song about this topic and my feelings about it called "Please." You will have to let me know what you think of it once you hear it :) All the love,

Priscilla from the Brazil Street Team -Hey Alex! Hope everything is okay with you! So my birthday was last month, and for some reason I just remembered something you said on one of the interviews you did down here in Brazil last time. I can't remember which one it was exactly, but they asked something about your birthday, since you celebrated it here, and you said you had turned 28 and felt old. Well, I'm turned 27 and I'm feeling old. With that in mind, looking back, are you happy with the things you've done in your life? Or are there a lot of things that you figured you would've done by now that you haven't? It doesn't have to be about your career, but life in general. We all have big dreams and hopes when we're little, but sometimes life doesn't go as planned... I know there are lots of things that I still want to do or wish I'd already done by now but didn't get the chance to. Thanks for your time! Priscilla

Alex -Hey Priscilla,Happy Belated Birthday!! :) Looking back at my life and my experiences I would have to say that I am happy with the things I have done, seen, and achieved. I try to never really have regrets, even with bad experiences. There is always something to learn from it and I would not be at the place in my life that I am had I not gone through everything I have so far. That's what makes us all unique and makes us who we are. True life doesn't always go according to plan but there is a reason for that. I really believe that you have to go through tough times to understand and appreciate the good ones. There are things I would have like to have done by now, of course, but I still have plenty of time to do them! I am at a great place in my life and am so happy with what I have and what is still to come. Start doing those things you never got to do while you can! :) Say hello to everyone in Brazil for me and hopefully I will be seeing everyone really soon!! All the love,

The Lofters on the Message Board & Debbie- Hey Alex, These questions don't come from any one particular fan but rather many fans on our Message Board. They keep coming up and I thought maybe you could help us understand. We've seen the songs that are matching up with the bracelet promotion you are doing and the fans are wondering if you are ready to give us the final CD Track list. The twelve songs they are listing for download are a bit different than the track listing you published in your final studio video back in 2007. Many of us were hoping for maybe just an add or two of a song bringing the final CD to 14 tracks. Yes, we're greedy but we've had to be patient for so long!! What made you decide to go with 12 and why did you decide to drop "Cruel One" and "I'm Sorry".

Alex -Hey there:) Good questions! I have 16 songs total that have been recorded. For the bracelets I had to chose only 12....and then you get two more for free if you buy all 12 bracelets (so maybe one of the songs you mentioned will be one of the free ones;). And when it comes to what songs are going on the album and how many, I am still deciding what to do. I may add another song, like Cruel One to the actual album. I also may do that just for the international album and then on the US album do a different song or only 12 songs, but switch one from what the 12 bracelet songs are. I also need to keep a couple songs as B sides for single releases in certain territories. I hope that gives you a better understanding of it all! The bottom line is that in one way or the other, there will eventually be 16 songs available total out there, they just won't all be on one album. And to answer your question of why I didn't put Cruel One or I'm Sorry as bracelet songs; it came down to the meaning of the songs. I had to connect the lyrical meanings of the songs to what the bracelets stand for like "Health", "Success" and "Good Luck"...and you'll actually see on the bracelet's tag a description of what that bracelet can do for you (like "Good Health" will always be with you while wearing this bracelet), and the description is done using a couple lyrics from that song. I know this may sound confusing but when you see it all you'll understand! It's really cool:) So Cruel One and I'm Sorry just didn't fit with any of the 12 different bracelet meanings, or they did kind of fit, but just not as much as other songs. And I know you didn't ask this, but I wanted to add that anyone who pre-orders the bracelets now on Zorbitz' site will get all the goodies (like the 2 free songs if you buy all 12 bracelets and the possible personal phone call from myself, etc.) once the Blackstar site is up and running in a couple weeks...so no worries! Thanks for the questions:)

Guilherme from Brazil - Hi Alex!I was reading an old interview another day and you were talking about the release of Camino Palmero, that it took five years to be released and it was a nightmare. And I was thinking that your first solo album is taking almost five years to come out.Five years to release The Calling and five years to release your career as Alex Band, too.Did you compare the two situations before?Which was the most difficult period? And is it easier to conquer fans or keep the anxiety of the fans about your new job? It's always nice to talk with you.Hope to see you soon in Brazil again.

Alex -Hey Guilherme, I can't wait to get back to Brazil and see you all again!! I haven't really ever compared the release times of Camino Palmero and my solo album before this. The situations are very different and I would say it is just a coincidence with both albums taking five years to release. It's hard to say what period was more difficult for me. Releasing this up and coming album on my own is definitely a struggle and I have gone through quite a lot to make it happen, as most of you know. Doing it all on my own Indie Label is a journey and it will be a great feeling once fall comes around and the album is finally released for all of you to hear! Having such dedicated fans like yourself makes this time around a lot easier and I am grateful to all my fans who have been around from the start and those just starting to follow my music. Five years is a long time, I'm ready to gooooo!

Luisa from Italy -Hey :) Let's be catastrophic today hehe. I've been hearing for a long time that on the 21st December 2012 the world is going to end. Now, we all know that almost every year a prophecy announces the end of the world and bla bla, but it never happens and I don't think there's someone who still believes to these things. But this time it seems very different, I've been reading books and looking for information and there are so many coincidences and so many different cultures agree on this point that something may even happen that day. Well, true or not, my question is: if you would be 100% sure that on the 12.21.2012 the world will end, what would you do in these remaining 3 years?? I mean, we all work to get a future, in the moment you realize there won't be any, would you keep on making music and working or would you give up on these things? And if yes, what will you do? Much love to you from Italy ;) Ciao bello! xoxo lu

Alex -Hey Luisa from Italy!! What would I do if I knew I only had three years of my life left before the world came to an end..? That is a great question, gets you thinking about how life can end so fast! Fortunately for me, I am living my dream and I have gotten to see and experience quite a bit in my life. In response to your question, I would spend all of my time with the people I love and care about because they are my support along side all of my fans. I would make sure to be doing all of the things that make me happy and that I love to do. So obviously music would still remain my focus in life. Touring and peforming for all of you would never stop! :) Of course I would be like any other person out there and do things I have never done before. Skydiving maybe? Or go on a Safari in Africa! I would just make sure that I follow my love and dedication for what I do and not take anything for granted. Great to hear from you and hope to be seeing all of you in Italy as soon as I can!! Ciao Luisa, all the love...

Scott from The UK -Hey Alex! The UK sends our Hello's too! :) Just 2 Questions really that I've wanted to ask you...Like yourself and most Alex fans we love passionate, heartfelt Lyrics and as we know you write those type of Lyrics, But I've seen a few artists when performing a deep song to them, they get really Emotional and sometimes even shed some tears, you can tell it's not theatrical or anything, and I always wondered have you ever come close to tears or anything like that Whilst performing a certain Song? My second question is regarding your guitar skills ;) We know you play Guitar and Piano (& Saxophone right?), anyway, I want to know if your any Good at lead guitar Skills, Never seen you do any and I Know thats because you Play Rhythm guitar of course, but It would be cool to see you pull off a solo riff like Arms ;) Thanks for your time anyway and we Hope to see you here Soon! Scott.

Alex -Hey Scott! And hello UK fans! I haven't forgotten about you....I'll be there soon enough:) Yes, there have been a few moments where I've almost shed tears on stage while singing a meaningful song of mine. I wouldn't say it was because of the song itself as much as the crowd I'm playing to and their level of excitement and passion that can tip me off. That new song of mine Rest Of Our Lives means a lot cause when I was still stuck with Geffen records, they didn't care about the song or like it when I wrote it. The last 5 years of struggling has made my confidence go way down. So when I perform a song like that live and see the fans loving it and singing it, that makes me feel vindicated in a way and there's a lot of emotion in there. To answer your second question; I have never spent any time getting my lead guitar chops up to speed...I've always just played rhythm and obviously sang mostly. I can't free style lead like someone of Arms' caliber. But if I have a prearranged solo that I've worked out, like for a recording in the studio, I can nail it pretty damn good. I'm sure you'll see me play at least one guitar solo in future shows. Thanks for the questions and I'll see you and all the UK fans soon on tour. I miss you guys!!!

Bee from The Netherlands - Hi Alex! This is Bee here from the Netherlands! At the moment I am in my second year of University, studying Tourism. I am at a point in my studies where I have to make important decisions that will determine the rest of my (future) career, pretty scary stuff! Have you ever thought about going back to university to get a degree? If so, what would you want to study? In a few months from now I am going to do an internship abroad for six months, at a beautiful Island near Puerto Rico. It's about a 10 hour flight from where I live now and the longest I have been away from home is about two months. What I want to know is, what do you do when you are away from home and missing your family and friends? Do you have any tips for me? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question and hopefully see you around in Europe soon!!! x Bee :)

Alex -Hey Bee, good to hear from you! Congrats on your continued schooling and that internship in Puerto Rico sounds like it's going to be a blast. School was never for me, I actually hated it. The thought of going to college or doing anything like that is horrifying to me! But if the music biz ever just completely fails for me, I would become a lawyer most likely. And of course that would mean a whole lot of schooling! I'm really not planning on that though!! The only tips I can give you to stay in touch with your family and friends back home while you're away is to keep it routine. Maybe pick certain days a week that you talk to certain people. Skype is a great free program that you can make calls from your computer and video chat as well. I've found video chatting to be really helpful, much more so than just a phone conversation. And it's important you bring things with you that remind you of home and your life there...even your favorite snacks! You want to embrace the new culture you will be in, but having the creature comforts you are used to is really important too. Good luck with everything! All the love...

Lucky from The Philippines -Hey Alex! How are you and your family? I'm Lucky from the Philippine Street Team. I'm 23 years old, and I'm one of your biggest fans here that you’ve inspired through your music and your life…Here are my questions. First, I'm currently trying to decide whether or not I’m going to quit my job. I’m happy with what I’m doing. However, something still seems to be missing and up to now I still haven't decided yet…So, I'd really like to find out, how do you make decisions? Like, where do you base your decisions and what do you use when deciding, your heart or your mind?... Second, a lot has happened to you over the last 5 years. I'd like to know what are the 3 things that you think you've lost and 3 things you've gained during that period of time? (This doesn’t have to be material possessions)…Third, what 3 weird things do we still don't know about you?

Sorry for asking a lot of questions, Thank you for finding time to read & answer them. Really, it means the world to us… And hey, thanks for the songs--- they keep me sane amidst life’s crazy trials…I’m actually glad I did read the Q&A section because I learned a lot about you and found out more proof of how down to earth, multi-talented and kind-hearted you are. People like you are quite rare… I do hope to meet you in person someday and watch you perform live...even if that means I’ll have to visit the US! (I’m actually saving money for that) The Philippine Street Team sends you their love and we’re so looking forward to your solo album. (Hey, anything worth having is worth waiting for, ryt?)… Keep up the good work. You’re always in my prayers. All the love, Lucky

Alex -Lucky from the Philippines! My family is crazy as usual, how are yours?! Thinking about quitting your job huh? You know, if you're not happy with what you're doing everyday, then I say go for it. It's a true blessing if you can find a way to make a living doing what you love to do. Making big decisions is tough, I've had to make so many of them and I would definitely say following what my heart and intuition says is the best way. I don't listen to other people's advice much since they aren't living in my head! To answer your second question, there has defintely been many many things that have happened to me over the last 5 years. It's been a frustrating time for sure, but I've also grown a lot and have stayed true to myself, which is the most important thing. That would be one of the 3 things I've gained during the last 5 years, staying true to what I believe in. But with that I've also lost things, one of them being TIME. A lot of time has been wasted as I've been fighting to stay true to what I want. I really can't come up with 3 things I've lost and 3 things I've gained right now...some of those answers I might be able to come up with are too personal I think right now. And let's see...3 "weird" things you guys still don't know about me...hmmmmm....you all know a lot already! I also can't come up with 3 things for this question, I'm pretty weird myself, maybe that's a weird thing about me....that I'm weird? Haha, I don't know. I like to watch the game show Price Is Right in the morning if I can...that's pretty lame, not really weird. I'm allergic to alcohol and can't drink any, but most of you know that already. Sorry I can't come up with more things! I'll try to think of some more! I really hope I can meet you in person too one day. I am really going to try to make my way to the Philippines when I get back on tour with this new record....I've always want to go there! Send my love to all the Philippine Street Teamers please! All the love...

Candy from Belgium -My daughter and I would first just like to THANK YOU for some of the best music ever.. and for being such a great role model both you and your wife. It's really nice being part of the Alex Band community and I look forward to all future works. We hope to some day see you perform live! Now for the questions - I have always wondered how celebrities manage their time? Sounds kinda boring I know, but what is a typical day in the life of Alex? Is what you do a 9 to 5 job? Do you have to sacrifice spending time with family and friends. What is the best advice you can give to parents of children who love music and want to be in this business?

Alex -Hey Candy! Thank you, It's always nice to hear I'm a good role model AND I have "some of the best music ever"! Haha:) You asked a very tough question, cause every day for me is different. What I do is definitely not a 9-5 job. When I'm on tour or promoting a new album, my job is insane...there is no rest, no time to be sick, no time to see the world or friends or anything, it is chaos...and after a long days work...or multiple days work, you don't get to go home to your own bed and rest, you are always traveling. BUT, the beauty of my job is that when I am home creating new music and recording, I have a much more open schedule, and I can do lots of things I like to do for fun and I get to see my family and friends. It's definitely not a boring life! Hmmmmm, advice for parents of children who love music and want to be in the business....the business part of my job is horrible and competitive and unfair and dangerous! With that being said, it is all changing in a way now that is better for the artist and safer. I would support your children in what they want to do, cause there is always that chance they will succeed, and doing something you love for a living is one of the greatest gifts in the world. Thanks for the questions:) All the love....

Allan from Brazil -Hi, Alex, what's up ? Allan from Brazil here ! I don't know if you will remember me, from the the shows in June and December. Anyway, I just want to ask you what do you think about U2's new album "No Line On The Horizon". Did you like it ? What's your favorite song ? Do you think they "revolutionized" the rock with this album, as some people are saying ? Were you so anxious for its release as we are for your album ? (And look: it's not a "little" anxious! lol) Just that...Hope you're enjoying your idol's album, because I think we'll be like that soon ! =) Take care and give greetings for Jennifer and Parige!

Alex -Hey Allan from Brazil! Good to hear from you:) I was a bit let down by this U2 album, it is not my favorite from them. "Magnificent" is a beautiful song, but I am having a hard time getting into the rest of the album...but it is growing on me. I still go back to Joshua Tree and All That You Can't Leave Behind, those albums are classics. I am really looking forward to seeing them on tour this time around...their new stage show and setup is going to be insane! Thanks for the questions and I'll see you in Brazil soon enough. All the best....

Cininta from Indonesia - Hi Alex! I'm Cininta from Indonesia. I'm sorry if my English isn't well. There is something inside my head. What is your fav motivation quote when you're in trouble so you can solve your problem. Do you tell your problem to your friends? Or are you keep it alone? And what's your opinion about expressing our emotions? Because not everyone have an ability like you. By the way, i'd be so happy if you want to visit Indonesia and look around here. You can tasting how is our traditional foods like. Or maybe you can give me some of your albums. Because in Indonesia there is just your second album in The Calling is available. I want more. Keep making good creation, dude.

Alex - Hey Cininta from Indonesia! I would love to come perform in Indonesia one day soon! When my new album comes out there I will visit for sure! I "wear my heart on my sleeve" and speak openly about how I feel, or what is troubling me. Sometimes this is a good thing, but sometimes my honesty gets me in trouble! I don't have a favorite motivation quote that I can think of....just stay positive. I think it is very VERY important to express your emotions and talk to your friends and family about how you feel...or if you can release your feelings in some form of art, that is great too. I have learned the hard way that holding in your emotions can lead to bad things, like real sickness in your self. Thank you for the questions and I'll be looking for you when I come to Indonesia. All the love...

Ann from Michigan, USA - Gandhi once said "I want Freedom for the full expression of my personality". Do you feel at this time in your personal life and music career that you can be free to be who want to be? Also, Do you have any inspiration coming from the new Administration. Enjoy 2009!

Alex - Hey Ann:) Yes yes yes....I can finally say that at this time in my personal life and musical career that I can be free to be who I want to be. It has been a VERY long and difficult struggle, but now I am the boss of me and it is very liberating. I stuck to the music I wanted to make and fought the good fight...and won. And a big yes to having inspiration from the new Administration....I was always behind Obama and am so happy we have someone like him running our country. I hope he can turn this crazy mess we're in around. All the love to you Ann and hope to see you soon on tour in Michigan.

Ingrid from Holland - Heya Alex! How are you at the moment? This is Ingrid from Holland, who is still in a dream about finally seeing you again after what... 4 years at least!! I was the happiest person ever!! And also it was the highlight of my summer! And of course the kids I got to work with this summer... they mean a lot too! But anyways, I have a question about traveling... How do you do it?? Last year and this year I was at the States for about 4 months working for 10 weeks and then traveling. When I finally got home like a week ago I thought I needed at least a year to recover... My question is... How do you manage traveling and standing on stage during a big international tour without getting sick. I mean especially for like your voice, since that is THE most important thing for performing. Anyways thanx! Keep up the good work and Holland is waiting for you! All the love, Iggy..

Alex - Hey Ingrid! It was great to see you! Traveling is really hard for everyone, including myself. Throw in singing and performing almost every night and doing press and TV during the day, it can get really difficult. I get sick a lot, as anybody would, but I just have to be strong and fight it off the best I can and work through it. I have still to this day never canceled a show due to being sick...knock on wood! The last tour through Brazil was one of the hardest I've done and it definitely tested my physical and mental will power. I couldn't say how I do it, other than thinking about how let down people would be if I had to cancel a show or an appearance. Maybe that is what keeps me going, I don't know. I really don't have any special care for my voice while on tour...I'm not one of those singers who refuses to talk during the day or drinks special concoctions...I just do what I do and so far it has seemed to work. Thanks for the questions and I am soooo looking forward to coming back to Holland soon on tour and seeing you again. Just gotta get this damn record out! All the love..

Ashley from the US - Hey Alex! It’s Ashley from Illinois. First of all, it has been such a blessing to have the opportunity to listen to your music and be inspired by it each day. I’m so ecstatic that you have decided to put your record out independently. I know you have poured your heart out more than ever and I can’t wait to see the cd reflect that.
Today I saw an amazing presentation in memory of Rachel Scott, the first person killed at Columbine. She created a set of guidelines to eliminate violence and prejudice which were discovered in the weeks following her death. Her journal contained her ambitions, her most intimate feelings, and a hope that we would encourage other through little acts of kindness. Do you write down what you hope to accomplish in the world, even if it is just small, simple goals? Have you always shared your dreams (regarding music or anything else) with other people?
When you started your non-profit organization, I realized that using your passion to inspire others is possible. Personally, I am going to be a fashion designer, but more importantly, I want to help people feel comfortable with their bodies and overcome their insecurities so they can have a positive self-image. I think it is important to love yourself before you can openly share that love with others. After battling an eating disorder, I’ve realized that the fashion industry needs to accommodate and represent every woman.
Thank you for sharing your amazing music with the world (it gives me a reason to smile every day :), and taking time to answer my questions. Every single one of your fans will always support you. You’ve allowed so many people to follow their dreams. Hopefully I will be able to experience the magic of your music in person some day…until then…all the best, love, & happiness…Ashley

Alex - Hey Ashley from Illinois:) So glad to hear my music inspires you. I too can't wait until my solo album finally gets released! To get to your questions...I have never written down what I hope to accomplish in the world cause I've always known. And that is to spread love and unity throughout the world with my music. Anything I can do to help people individually or as a whole, I'm all for it. You asked if I have always shared my dreams with other people....if you mean my dream as in what I just mentioned, then yes, I believe I have always shared it, or as long as I can remember. I was lucky enough to know what my purpose was very early on and I stuck to it and now I'm realizing it. This adds to the frustration when I am being held back by the powers of the music business...it's not just about making money at all for me, I want to get out there and do what I was put here to do...it's what I need to do to feel one with myself. The best of luck to you with your fashion designing, I hope I get the chance to perform for you one day soon! All the love...

Jeanette from the USA -Hey Alex, it's Jeanette from California! First and foremost I wanted to let you know how amazing I think you are and how grateful I am that I get to see you live....Trying to get as many shows in as possible! Now for my question...I wanted to know what the craziest fan experience you've ever had was? Also, I know about the older bands you like, but what new bands/artists are you liking lately? Thanks for always making my day so much better! Can't wait to see you again!

Alex - Hey Jeanette! Good to hear from you and thank you for coming to so many shows:) Let's see...the craziest fan experience, Hmmmmm. There's been plenty, but I would have to say leaving Thailand at the airport in 2002 after having to cancel our show. We were completely surrounded by at least 1,000 fans in the terminal trying to check in and there was a circular wall around them of military looking guys with guns! We felt like lions at the zoo! My South Korea trip was pretty nuts too, but I'll always remember that Thailand moment. To answer your other question, my favorite older bands are Led Zepelin, The Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd and of course U2. Now I'm really into Kings Of Leon's new album, it's fantastic. And always loving Coldplay. Thanks for the questions Jeanette and I hope to see you soon at my next show! All the love...

Agnes from Germany - Hey Alex! I've been a fan of musicals since I was ... let me think... 13 or so, which is a long time ago. Phantom Of The Opera being the first musical I fell in love with. So naturally I was thrilled to read that you're singing Phantom songs. So, can you tell us a little more about it? Which songs were you singing? And speaking of musicals, what do you think of this genre? Cause I know people say that this just easy entertainment or whatever (to be honest I enjoy it cause it's just fun and you don't have to think too much after a busy day at work). I was also wondering if you could imagine actually standing on stage in a musical or ever sing those songs again elsewhere, and if you have a favorite musical. My favorite is Starlight Express cause I'm a passionate inline skater. I even sung and danced on a stage in a musical myself - nothing huge though. It's so different from the whole Pop/Rock music business so how come you got involved with singing it? I hope these are not too many question marks here. Would just be awesome to read your answer. Much love and I hope to see you again soon in you-know-where. Agnes

Alex - Hey Agnes! It was great seeing you in Virginia! So Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical and it was the first one I ever saw when I was 8 years old. I was totally hooked on it and listened to the album afterwards like crazy. So naturally when I was asked to sing a couple songs from Phantom with Emmy Rossum at an event, I was psych'd! We sang Think Of Me and Thats All I Ask Of You. It was so much fun! I'm sure I'll do it again someday...and I'll record it for you guys! Thanks for the questions Agnes. All the love...

Leslie from the USA - Hey Alex, two questions....one silly and one a bit more serious. First the serious one, Was there anyone or a specific thing that was the main source for inspiration for the songs or theme of your new album? I can't wait for the album, I know it will be amazing. I love all the songs we get to hear live. You inspire all of us everyday with your music, is there anyone in your life that inspires you to just move ahead and keep your head up with all you have been through? Now the less serious one.....
We often talk on the message boards about what your wearing, or your hair style of the moment is. Do you have a favorite time period during your career that you liked the most for yourself, like style of dress, and hair? I think you always look cool, and I love the jackets you have been wearing... ;) Thanks again for everything you do for us. You are truly an amzaing person. I look forward to the next show. The DL show was so much fun! Thank you.

Alex - Hey Leslie! Good to see a question from you here! And good to see you in Virginia, thanks for coming to support the cause again! I couldn't say there is one source of inspiration for the songs on this record....there are so many! I started writing songs in early 2005, right after I got done with The Calling's second record and all the touring we did with that....From then on there have been so many heavy things that I needed to deal with through song writing: The decision to go solo. Leaving RCA. My relationship with Aaron. The Calling's future. My wife's illness and operation. Moving. Family drama. Signing with Geffen. Being forced in a creative direction I didn't want to go in. Waiting waiting waiting. Money issues. Watching the record business crumble before my eyes. Leaving Geffen and going it all alone. My manager's death. Etc. I am still writing cause it's what I do and I wouldn't be surprised if one more great song gets added to this record before it's in your hands while I'm putting together my label. Now, on to the more serious question;)....I do look back at older pictures of me sometimes, but I'm definitely not thinking I like how I looked! Sometimes I do miss being blonde though, but I know if I went back now I would freak out and hate it. Maybe one day. Clothes wise, I think I'm improving...but I'm sure I'll look at current pictures of myself years from now and laugh! Anyway, thanks Leslie for all YOU do, always good to see your face...you've been with me for the long haul and it is very very much appreciated. All the love....

Luiz from Brazil - Hi Alex, Luiz from the Brazilian Street Team here =D First of all, I'd like to send you a huge greeting from all your brazilian fans! We're all waiting anxiously for your solo CD and the world tour, hope you can drop by again ;) Second, my questions... I've been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for about two years now, and I'd like to know what's your position on this subject - if you have ever considered being a vegetarian and if you agree/disagree with diets without meat (meat including chicken and seafood). Also, are you in any way related to defending animal rights? What do you think about models that wear fur? Thanks you so much for your answers, for your music and for being an awesome person, so close to fans and everything. Hope to run into you when you come to Brazil again=)" Thanks and take care! =D

Alex - Luiz! Hello to you and all the Brazilian Fans!! I can't wait to come back there! Even though the last tour was insane, it was sooooo much fun and I miss you guys! You know I'm a huge animal lover (especially cats!)...so its hard for me to see people wearing fur and hearing about products being tested on animals, but I honestly think eating certain meat is part of nature and evolution and just the simple food chain. We as humans have domesticated certain animals as common pets, ones that we bring into our house and treat like part of our family, so I don't feel it's right for any harm to come to those animals. But other animals have been a source of nourishment and warmth and productivity ever since we first arrived here so it's hard to deny their use and treat them like human beings. I think we have enough problems with human beings actually that in my mind takes precedence over animal rights! I do eat meat, I love it, couldn't imagine not eating it...too tasty. But I fully support being vegetarian cause it is a very healthy lifestyle and there are plenty of people who are put off by the idea of eating an animal which I totally understand. I wouldn't wear fur cause I think there are plenty of synthetic options that are just as good and the animals that they kill for fur aren't really being used as common place meat so it's kind of a waste. There was something more organic about how things were done a couple hundred years back and beyond...small farms, no mass production, no hormones and growth stimulation, no monolithic slaughter houses, etc. I think there is definitely a huge problem today with the way in which we go about treating the animals that nourish us...yes their lives will end regardless, but we could certainly show them a better time while they're here! It's a corrupt business like every other business....rich people trying to do things as cheap as possible no matter what the consequence. Anyway, I'm rambling...I say go for it if you're a vegetarian and go for it if you want to eat meat, no reason why we can't have both on this planet, but together we should definitely work on animal cruelty cause that is a bigger issue that goes beyond what you put on your plate.

Stephanie from the USA - Hi Alex! It's Stephanie from Washington State. Just wanted to let you know (however many times you've heard it, one more won't hurt ;)) how beautiful your songs are and how much they mean to me. One by One, Stigmatized, and Could It Be Any Harder really reach out to me and I want to thank you for all you've done for all us fans. I live on the other side of Washington, so I probably won't be able to make it to your April 19th concert (don't have my license yet haha) but I wish you luck and hope you have a lot of fun! A few questions for you...

For your April 19th concert here in Washington, are you only going to play the songs off your new CD and stuff you've written after The Calling, or are you going to include some of The Calling music too?
What is the one thing that you'll never do in life? Why?
What one or two lines of a song would you call the best lyrics ever written?
Thanks again! :)

Alex - Hey Stephanie! My band and I have been playing all The Calling favorites and new songs at recent shows and we of course did so at that April 19th concert in Washington. Were you able to make it? Your next question is a tough one…I'd like to think I will try everything in my lifetime, except for a few obvious ones like murder, satanic worshiping, etc;) I guess the easy answer is that I will never stop writing and playing music, cause if I did my life would be over. To answer your last question…I think "With or Without You" by U2 has some of the best lyrics ever written. Don't know if I could just pick one or two lines out, it stands as a whole perfectly in my mind. Thanks for the questions and thank you for the support…I'm happy to hear my music means so much to you :) All the love…

Katrina from Germany - Hey Alex, first of all I wish you and your family a wonderful, successful but most of all healthy new year! Eventually one of my most favoruite artists is gonna release his record and I can't wait! But this is where I come to the question: Many bands that I like, may them be from the US, New Zealand or Finland, do only rel ease their music in their home country. Do you know already if your album will be sold internationally or do I have to get over there to get it? What I'm also interested in is, does it make more sense for you, the artist/singer/writer to sell songs via Itunes and stuff or is it (monetarily) better to sell physical sound carriers? And do you rather have real CD's in your hand or do you prefer downloads? Best of luck for you and your wife. Hope to see you soon.

Alex - All the best to you and your family too Katina! Thanks for the questions. I will definitely be releasing my solo album worldwide and am currently working on making that happen in a big way….and this unfortunately is taking time. These days it makes sense for an artist, if they can, to release their music both digitally (itunes, online) and traditionally (in stores, CD's) since both are still important. I will definitely be doing both. But soon enough, maybe in 3 or 4 more years, it will only be digital, we won't be seeing any new music released on a tangible CD anymore. There may be an extremely small amount, but it will be the way of the past. This is sad to me, for someone who grew up going into the local record store, walking through the aisles, picking the best new stuff, holding it my hands…the future is very different. All of our entertainment content will be available to everyone at any moment without them even leaving their house. I do like iTunes and those types of online retailers, but I wouldn't want that to be our only option, and it will be soon. To answer your other question, there is more cost involved in making an actual CD and getting it into a store than to just sell it online. But, when you sell it online at somewhere like iTunes, they take 30%, so it kind of evens out. What you have to factor in though is the fact that in a store, someone can't chop your album up and just buy a few songs from it like they can on iTunes or online….and that is a huge factor in what is hurting album sales, among other things. It's all changing so fast and the labels and musicians are just trying to catch up and figure out the best way to make a living…and it's looking like album sales are not it anymore. It's both a difficult and exciting time…it will be interesting to see what happens. Anyway, thanks again for your questions and I hope to see you soon too! All the love….

Mati from Italy - Ciao Alex! How are you? First of all, the whole street team says hi, we can’t wait to see you again in our country and to hear the new stuff. I’ve been studying for two years Science Of Tourism, and I love traveling and I hope to make it a job someday. You get to travel a lot thanks to your work, even if you don’t get to spend much time visiting the places. Anyway, I was wondering… what’s your ideal trip? Where would you go? Are you an adventurous type, that would just take the car and go wherever the road takes you? Or are you the type that likes having it all organized? Also, congratulations for your own new label! It’s so cool! But, what will happen overseas with the tour and the release of the album without the major label money? Thanks for the attention! See ya! - Mati

Alex -Ciao Mati! And Ciao to everyone at the Italian Street Team! I can't wait to see you guys soon! Thank you for sticking around and supporting me, it means soooo much:) I am doing very well and feeling very free! Although I just got my wisdom teeth out so my face is all swollen...I look like a fat chipmunk! You know, I've been sooooo many places on the planet that it's hard to say what my ideal trip would be. At this point I would say that I'd love to see the few places I haven't seen yet...like New Zealand, and Egypt, Israel, a cruise around the Greek Isles, and so on. I am an adventurous type although I do like things somewhat structured, it's nice to know you have some sort of organized plan when you travel....like "where am I going to sleep tonight?" I am very much looking forward to coming back to Italy soon on tour! I am trying to set up some shows in Italy and other parts of Europe before the end of this year! And don't worry about the release of my record and touring in regards to no "major label money"...It will all be taken care of just as well if not better. Thanks for your questions and I hope to see you soon! All the love....

Nerely from the US - Alex- Hi, from sunny Florida. I was thinking If Debbie is "mom", can I be "sister"? I'm new here. I admire all the love you put into your music. I also admire how much you care about your fans and how much you interact with them. This means alot to us fans. I love your music. I am constantly singing one of your songs. It's a different song every day. You are on shuffle in my head. I have been trying to catch up on info about you on amb.com. I have been reading articles, looking at pictures, reading fan questions. I am starting to feel like I know you. I do have a few questions for you. Do you ever get distracted while you are on stage singing? Do you ever get homesick when you travel? I hope I will get the opportunity to see you in concert one day soon!

Alex - Sister! LOL....maybe one day:) Glad to hear I'm on shuffle in your head, although that must get annoying! You know, I do get distracted on stage sometimes when I'm singing and that's usually when I forget the lyrics cause my "zone" gets broken. Usually I'm distracted by my in-ear monitors having a problem and I can't hear right, but other times I'm distracted by things happening in the audience....like people passing out or getting kicked in the head or random angry dudes flicking me off, etc. And I do get homesick when I travel for sure, although only on the longer tours, like 2 weeks or more. The shorter tours are always way too busy to even have time to feel homesick. Anyway, thanks for your questions and I hope to see you in sunny Florida soon too! A little birdie told me I might be playing a gig in Orlando in October...shhhhhh.

Allan from Brazil - Hey, Alex, how are you ?I hope you're fine and enjoying your vacations, like I'm doing...I would like to ask you: what do you think about some artists, like JoJo, Hannah Montana or the teenagers from High School Musical, that started singing very young and are making a lot of success all over the world. A lot of kids and teenagers like it, and nowadays, it is absorbing the music industry alot with their fame and popularity. What do you think about it? It makes you remember when you were starting your career with 'The Calling', even thought has nothing to do with your music style and fans? And I would like to say thank you for bringing your music and voice to our ears and making our lives better... Your music REALLY helps me almost every day of my life, making me choose the right decisions... Thank you for all, see you here in Brazil, I hope ! Stay in peace... =)

Alex -Ciao Allan! How is Brazil? I can't wait to come there in August and play shows for you all! It's going to be awesome! To answer your question, I think there is a place for all different kinds of music, of course. It is sad to see a specific genre take over, but everything comes in waves....Boy Bands, Rock, Rap, Teen Pop...It's always changing. I feel the reason acts like High School Musical and Hannah Montana are so huge is because they are attacking the entertainment business on multiple levels, TV, Movies and Music all at once....and these days you need multiple avenues of success to have even a decent success in the music business. It's really really tough out there for someone like me. So tough in fact, that I have spent the last bunch of years just trying to get my finished album released! Very frustrating. I am close though. I wouldn't say Hannah Montana or High School Musical makes me remember when I was starting my career cause they are such different entities. I worked like any simple band from the ground up....no help of a hit TV show or movie. Thanks again for the question and I hope to see you at one of my shows in Brazil. All the best....

Jaime from the Louisiana, US -My name is Jamie from down on the bayou and I am a big fan of all of your music and can not wait for the new record. I am dying to hear what you have in store for us. My question has to do with you and the law. LOL. MHD occasionally runs "Music in High Places w/ The Calling." I was curious as to what really happened in Italy when you and the band got stopped by the police on the mopeds. That was my favorite part aside from the music and absolutely beautiful scenery. I love Italy and I know that you do to. Was it really as great as it seemed, playing by the Seine river and in the streets? --Forever a fan, Jamie

Alex -Hey Jaime! How goes it down on the bayou? I'm dying to get you my new music! You won't be disappointed! Haha, nice question! I think the camera crew being there helped us get out of the situation with the cops. They probably would have given us a ticket or arrested us, but they became too caught up in the moment being on camera! They just let us go with a warning luckily:) I spent a lot of time in Italy growing up and it is definitely close to my heart and one of my favorite places in the world. The Italian fans are so awesome too. And yes, it really was as great as it seemed, playing by the river and the streets of all those beautiful cities...and in the castle of course. We shot the show in the midst of a crazy world tour and I was soooooo burned out that it was hard to appreciate it all. But when I watched the first cut of it later on it was really special. Thanks for the question and thanks for being a big fan of my music. Looking forward to coming down and playing some shows on the bayou! All the love....

Erica and Elaine from Brazil -hello Alex! How are you ?! We have some questions to you...! Some time ago we saw some interviews, like the extra interview from the "Two" album, where you said that you hate flying, so we want to know why have you decided to fly helicopters ?! which is your biggest flaw (not physical, but personally)? Which the worse flaw that a person can have? Have a good luck with your new cd, we are very anxious for this and we know that will be perfect! And sure we hope to see u here in Brazil too soon as possible! We love u so much! kisses and all the best! Erica and Elaine

Alex -Hey guys! Guess what, I may be coming to tour in Brazil this coming August for two weeks! I don't know anything for sure yet, but I will let you all know as soon as I find out more. To answer you're question, I do remember saying I didn't like to fly and it's true....but I meant I don't like flying in big commercial jets. I don't like not being in control, and I don't like not knowing who the pilots are or how they're feeling that day, and I really don't like turbulence when flying through bad weather. So you can see the difference between that and me flying around my own little helicopter during a nice sunny day a few hundred feet off the ground! Ok, so let's see, my biggest flaw personally? That's tough....I'm sure you'd get a different answer from my wife than me! But I guess it would be that I have a hard time sticking to something once I decide to do it. Like exercise....I hate to exercise! I think the worst flaw a person can have besides the obvious like being a psycho homicidal maniac, would be not being able to love....how horrible would life be then? Kisses to you guys too....hope to see you in Brazil soon! All the love.....

Agnes from Denmark -Dear Alex, Who in the whole world, would it mean the most to you, if this person came to tell you that he or she loved your music, and thought that you make a difference by doing what you’re doing? Have you met the person? How many songs have you written… ever!! (Including those that didn't make it as good ones... if any)... And do you only write songs or poetry too? What part of a song do you listen to? The music or the lyrics? What makes you fall for a song? Which is the most important, melody or words? And do you ever sing along to songs you hear like in the radio? And please let me in on who plays the drums on The Truth…especially on that last pre-chorus, it’s amazing... (I love the three voices on top of each other in the second verse!!! You’re a genius)

Sorry for all the questions... but to ask is the only way to get some answers ;D Thank you for doing what you’re doing. You’ve changed my life more ways than you’ll ever know. And you have helped me through some rough situations with especially my dad, and his need for the alcohol when he’s feeling like he’s been let down. And finally you’ve made me believe that dreams can come true, and that life is mine and that I should live it the way I think is right. So thank you. With gratitude and love, Agnes

Alex -Hey Agnes! Good to hear from you:) To be completely honest I meet that person all the time whether face to face on tour, in an email or a letter, or even in a question. You all mean the most to me and it never gets old hearing those things, ever. Granted if Bono were to call and tell me that...I would be pretty thrilled, but not in the same way (more so cause Bono would be calling me! I mean, come on). To answer your next question, I have probably written over 400 songs. You should see how crazy it is when I scroll down past my name in my itunes player....it just keeps going and going. Now some songs never were recorded, some are just ideas, some don't have lyrics, others don't have even a melody. But I've gotta have at least 60 complete recorded demos of songs I wrote for just this album alone by now that didn't make the cut. I'm sure someday they'll make their way out. I don't write poetry, but have always liked to try. When I listen to other artist's music I listen to the big picture all at once, lyrics and melody and arrangement and instrumentation, etc. It's hard to say what makes me fall for a song....but I would say it has to be honest, and deep, heartfelt, REAL. Otherwise if it's just a catchy tune, then that's all it is for me...gets stuck in my head, drives me crazy, and I just want it out! I think melody and words work hand in hand....but if I had to pick one I would say melody is more important. I don't believe a song has to make perfect sense lyrically, there just has to be a string of words that jump out and touch you somehow. There are some songs on the radio I will sing along too, but mostly out of either boredom or cause the radio has played them a million times before and by that point I have no choice but to sing along. Believe it or not, that's me playing the drums in "The Truth"....fake drums....just pushing little keys on a keyboard that have the right slammin drum sounds and putting it all together on the computer. All the demos I do at home or songs I write to submit to other artists have fake drums, it's really the only instrument that I can't deal with recording at home. I'm pretty crap at playing the real drums, but when it comes to pushing little keys on the keyboard in the right way, I rock! :) Well, thank you for your sweet words there at the end, means a lot to me...its what keeps me going in a business that keeps trying to stop me. All the love....

Sarah from Germany -Hey Alex! first of all..HAPPY NEW YEAR to you! :) this is Sarah from Germany (the country where it's freezing cold right now). I hope you had a fabulous start into 2008! Dont worry,I wont ask you anything about your record, I think it's the best if we just wait and be surprised :) I'm pretty interested in the elections 2008 in the US and I wondered what you'd say. I wont ask you about the candidates, although I'd be pretty curious who'd be your favourite (you can answer that if you want ;) ), but I also want to know what would you do if you could be president for a week? What would you change? And another political topic, what are you thinking bout the global warming discussion this year? with all the benefit and charity concerts and all the celebrities that are involved. Are you thinking that this is really important or are you more critical and saying that this is just some kind of hype. Thanks for taking the time. I cant wait to hear your new record and see you perform. take care. x. Sarah

Alex -Hey Sarah:) Happy New Year to you too. Hmmmm, the 2008 elections huh? I have to say I haven't completely decided yet, I'm split between Hilary and Obama. I wish they would morph into one person…Obillary, I would vote for Obillary;) I would never want to be the president, even for one week, I would die from stress and anxiety! But if I had to be, I would probably pay more attention to Africa, the environment, and healthcare….would definitely like to see some free healthcare action for our country. Regarding global warming, I do believe it's a very real issue and I think every little bit of help counts. We do live in a world where people listen to celebrities and their points of views and opinions, so what's the harm in them trying to make a change? I say go for it. I would definitely play a concert free of charge if its intent was to gain awareness for global warming. I'm a somewhat "green" person myself and do what I can to help the environment and would love to do more if possible. Thanks for the questions and hope to see you soon on tour in freezing cold Germany! All the love…

Naomi from Australia -My name is Naomi Campbell I live in Australia (yes truly that is my name . . . like the supermodel). I would like to say i think the stuff that Debbie and Alex do for Alex's fans is incredible. I truly feels like you think about us and consider us in the choices and decisions that you make, which is why you have such loyal fans. Who will do ANYTHING to hear, see and listen to you. My question(s) is where did you get your AWESOME attitude from? I am so into ATTITUDE, attitude is everything. I have read all your thank you notes, lyrics and messages you send to us, and everything i can find on you and i am constantly amazed on your attitude. Does it come from books? Or did it come from a person of influence? or a combination of things? If it is a book what is do you recommend? Or person Who? and How? and of course WHEN IS THE ALBUM coming out AND when are you coming to AUSTRALIA? (...those last two are cool if you don't answer YET because I know you will tell us A.S.A.P.) Thank you for all that you do Debbie and Alex YOU TOTALLY ROCK! Cheers Naomi Campbell

Alex -Hey there! Do you like to beat up your personal assistants like the other Naomi Campbell? ;) I'm gonna start with your last two questions…the album is coming out this year even if that means I have to sell it out of the back of my car and get sued by my label in the process! And I will be touring this year for sure, I am already in the process of setting up some pre-record release dates and once the single hits I will be everywhere, including Australia….again, even if that means I have to just fly on down to you and play on the street with an empty cup in front of me;) So, attitude…I definitely didn't get it from a book or any sort of entertainment like that…I am almost sure I got it from my Dad. He is the most positive human being I have ever met or come across in my life. Even in the face of complete disaster, he will always find the good, however hard that may be, and push on through. Super optimistic. Now, between you and me, his level of optimism has gotten him in trouble and can be counterproductive….but I think I got just the right amount passed down to me:) So if you want some of it, hang out with him! Anyway, thank you for the questions and I will be seeing you soon in beautiful Australia. All the love…

December 28, 2007

Luisa from Italy - Ciao Alex :) Here's Lu from Italy. Happy Holidays! My question is about your sweetest wife, so feel free to ask her also. Well, the secret is revealed about your family member that was sick and in need of a liver. I'm curious to know what let you choose that place (the radio interview in Richmond) and when did you decide it was the time to say she was your sick family member ? However, I see some exciting new projects in her life! Thanks God everything worked out! What do you think about her new book (or books)? Did you read it? I can't wait to grab it! I also think it would be such a shame to not see her acting anymore, so I hope she'll be able to start over again. Last question, I remember Vanitas, at the beginning, was meant to be even for men; since the girls are getting huge success, what about a male line, maybe featured by you?? Wish you two the best for 2008! It def will be your year.

Also, the whole Italian Street Team says HI!!! We miss you and we'll always be there to support you! Don't ever think we left you! Just make things faster so you can come and visit us again in 2008 All my support and respect to you and Jen! xoxo Lu

Alex - Dear Lu, HAPPY HOLIDAYS! I hope you had a great Christmas:) I was waiting for someone to ask this question since I spilled the beans on that radio show about Jen. I didn't really consciously chose that moment to tell everyone, it just seemed like it made sense considering the topic of discussion at that time. Years ago when Jen got sick, we chose not to tell everyone it was her cause she was trying to still be a working actress, but it got to a point where she just couldn't work anymore. Then last year she had a major surgery which luckily saved her life without having to do the transplant. After the surgery she decided to stop acting all together and concentrate on the memoir she is writing and also her clothing company. Maybe one day if someone asks I'll explain what it was that was wrong with Jen and what we went through, it's quite a story. The good news is she is happy and healthy now. Although it's not finished yet, I have read her book through it's many stages and it's really really good. I'll of course let you all know when it's out in stores. Regarding the clothing line that Jen and her sister and my sister run, maybe one day we'll do a mens line, but not anytime soon...that business is almost even more difficult than the music business and they have their hands full as it is. Thank you for your questions and Jen thanks you for running her fansite! She loves it! Tell everyone at the Italian Street Team I say hi back and send them all my love. I'll see you all next year!!! Happy New Year:)

Scott from England - Hey Alex, Scott here from England. Upon hearing the news about the album delay in September, we were all disappointed, obviously you even more so, but don't worry, we will always be here giving you 100% support every step of the way, you can count on that. Anyway, i have a few questions for you, 1 is.. What is the biggest and hardest musical decision you've ever had to make in your career? and my second question is about your dad and your music, Does your dad listen your music often? If so, does he like it as much as us ;) And do you spend much time with him even though you both have hectic schedules?, Anyway, thanks for your time, and i can't wait till 2008, it's gonna be one great year All the love & Best Wishes

Alex - Hey Scott! I know, I am bummed too, but I am using this extra time wisely and adding even more songs to the album. I can't wait for 2008 either! Here are the answers to you questions. All the best..
1) I would definitely say the hardest and biggest decision I've ever had to make in my career so far was deciding to go solo and leaving Aaron and The Calling for the time being. There were many, many reasons for me to do so, but it was still very difficult. One day I will hopefully be able to tell you all. I do believe I made the right choice though and am so looking forward to going it alone.
2) My Dad is my #1 fan! He has always supported my career and given me good advice, direction, and help. He's been listening to my new album non stop for the last 5 months and thinks it's "genius":) We don't get to see each other very often due to our schedules, but we try our best.

Debbie - Hey you! Debbie here....It was so great to see you on stage again for those last two shows. I know you can't do a tour diary for those two off shows but can you give us a little mini one. As a fan it was really great to see your new songs come to life. Was it as much fun for you to be back on stage again as it was for us to see you there? You sounded even better than before, if that's possible! Looking forward to the 2008 Alex Band Tour! xoxo

Alex - Hey Deb! It was soooo great being back on stage for those last two shows and I can't thank you and the fans enough for coming and supporting me and Donate Life. I'm going to hold out until next year to start doing the real tour diaries, but for now all I can say is that it was a highlight of the last 3 years to be standing on stage and see all these familiar faces from all around the world looking back at me....you guys are the best. All the love...

Kate from Russia - Hello, Alex, my name is Kate, im from Russia (by the way all the Russian fans cant wait to listen to your new album ;) How are you? Hope you're having rest after working for so long on your album)) My questions are:
1. What day of your life you would like to re-live?
2.What question you never want to be asked again? Thank you very much, i hope to listen to your new songs soon and who knows, maybe to see you on your concert! P.S.Sorry for bad English XD

Alex - Hi Kate! I want to meet my Russian fans! I've never been to Russia…I've got to make it there next time around, remind me! ;) I'm doing good, just frustrated this album is taking so long to come out. I've been writing for other artists recently, which is fun. Thanks for the questions! Here you go…
1) This is a hard question. Really hard. I've been blessed with so many good days, or days that were good that I didn't take advantage of as much as I could have. Honestly, I hate to be lame, but I can't choose one. There are days I would want to relive to make different decisions that would have changed the course of things to come, but I believe everything happens for a reason so I wouldn't want to mess with things. And there are days that were filled with amazing moments that I would want to relive, but then I get to thinking that would they be as amazing if I relived them again having already lived them? Would reliving them make them less special or ruin them somehow? Sorry to get all philosophical!
2) Hmmmm, what question do I never want to be asked again? Maybe the one above since I don't know the answer!? :) Years ago the question I couldn't stand was "how did the band get started?" I must have answered that question a thousand times. I guess I won't be asked it very much anymore though!

Steffi from Germany - Hi Alex, I hope you're doing good. I'm happy that its going forward with your music and I loved what I heard so far :) Well i was thinking about some things and I was wondering what you might say, soo here we go :) What does it mean for you to live? Is it like "get up, survive, go back to bed" or is it enjoying your life and having a great time in whatever you do? Another question - What do you like to do again and again and again? Are there any certain things? or is it more like daily things that you enjoy to do? One last question. I don't really understand it but why do you suppose people are so interested in your hair??! Always commenting, noticing when it changes, etc? What do you think of all that? Anyways, thank you loads for taking the time and a big thanks to Debbie of course :) Cant wait to see you soon on stage and yeah, wishing you loads of the well deserved success :) xxxxxxxxxSteffi

Alex - Steffi:) Thanks for the questions! What does it mean for me to live? I think it's a mixture of the two things you said. Some days I'm up and some days I'm down just like anyone else. I try to keep the attitude of living life to it's fullest, but then life gets in the way! I would definitely say I have a very optimistic point of view overall. I think most of you guys know what I like to do on a daily basis; of course music is involved in every day of my life, whether I'm writing, singing, listening, etc. I love to fly in the chopper when I have the time…also golfing is a lot of fun. I have my favorite places to eat, to see movies, to shop, etc. As cheesy as it sounds, love is a very important part of my daily life…love for my wife, love for my family, love for my sweet little cats! About the hair thing, your guess is as good as mine…I have no idea why my hair is such a big topic of discussion. Maybe cause you can run out of things to talk about, but there's always the hair?! I don't know. Maybe I should just cut it all off. Well, thanks again for your questions and I can't wait to see you from the stage soon! All the love…

Tiffany from the Philippines - Hi! I'm Tiffany from the Philippines. I've loved your music since I first heard The Calling when I was in fourth grade. Though I'm a black metal fan, your songs always manage to seep to the heart. Anyway, my question is something that every artist must answer: Will you ever consider changing genres, like go metal or emo or whatever else if given the chance? Or you'll always stay with rock? And I've noticed something: the The Calling songs are more rock than what you're doing now. Have you considered doing more songs like Adrienne? You know, total rock. Thanks!!!

Alex - Hey Tiffany! I love writing all kinds of music and I'm currently writing for a bunch of other artists while I wait for my record to come out. But for now the kind of music on my album feels right for myself. I'm sure in the future I will play around with different sounds as the music world evolves. Oh and there's more rock songs on this album than you think...just as many as The Calling would have. You won't be disappointed! I really hope I can make it over to the Philippines this time around on tour. All the love!

Nancy from North Carolina,USA - Alex, It was only recently that I received both of The Calling CDs and started listening to them while caring for a sick family member. Maybe it sounds cliché, but the music really was therapeutic. I stumbled across this website while trying to determine if there were more of your CDs out there and was happy to learn that there was another on the horizon. Sounds as though there have been many challenges in getting another CD made. If it make you feel any better, the music business is not the only business that presents so many challenges to success. I work in the US health care/medical research area, so believe me I know about challenges and frustration. Hang in there. For what it is worth there seem to be a lot of people who love your music. As for my question… I started to learn piano as an “older adult” (as my piano books referred to me). Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to continue lessons, but I continue to try to learn on my own. I have found it most helpful to work on learning songs that I like - what a surprise. Since it sounded like your new CD might have some "piano-centric" songs, I was wondering if the “music” for the songs would also be published sometime this year and how to go about purchasing it. I realize that it would likely be at a level beyond my current capabilities, but I might be able to find someone to “simplify” it for me.

Alex - Nancy, so happy to hear The Calling's records could help you:) And no, it doesn't sound cliche, that's my favorite thing to hear and the reason I do all this in the first place. The music business is hard, but a far cry from Health Care! I actually just saw "Sicko"...wow, I couldn't believe it. Everyone should see that movie, it's really moving and opens your eyes to things you could never imagine. Piano is a great starter instrument, I wish you all the best with it! I'm sure once my record is out and doing well there will be a book released with all the music notation in it like there was for The Calling's first record. I doubt it will be a level beyond your capabilities, I write simple chord progressions for the most part...It's all about the melodies, that's what makes a great song. Thanks for the question:) All the love...

Flora from France - Hi Alex! I'm Flora from the French Street Team. I hope you're doing great! So here are my questions :
Is there a singer or a band who recently impressed you? A song which made you say "I really like!"?
Which sport event you never miss or you follow as soon as you can?
And finally what do you think about shows such as Live 8 or Live Earth? Don't you think that it's kind of paradoxical to have fun about serious things? (I don't say that I'm totally against it lol)
Thank you for your kindness and the happiness you bring in our lives through your music! Can't wait to hear your new songs and to see you in France! PS : I hope you liked the messages from the French Street Team of your Birthday Book with the postcards of France :)

Alex - Hi Flora from France! I just bought Silverchair's new record and it's great…I'm a big fan of theirs. I also really like the new Lifehouse album…especially a track called "Broken". I've never been much of a sports fan, so I can't say there's an event I never miss, but I do like watching golf! Especially Tiger Woods. I think Live 8 and Live Earth are really helpful, I've never looked at them as just "having fun about a serious thing"…they are doing something amazing for the cause, bringing awareness and financial support. I've watched both events you mentioned and as an outside viewer, contributed all I could in any way possible. I hope to be a part of events like those is the future and of course lead the way for organ donation with my own event soon. Thank you for the questions! I really liked the messages from the French Street Team in my Birthday book! I can't wait to come back to France soon and see you all:)

Annalena from Germany - Hey Alex! So I am happy to be able to ask a question again! First of all thank you for the autograph Debbie sent me from NYC in April, really made me happy! Thanks! So my question is, why you chose "We've All Been There" as the title of your new album. What is the meaning of it, like Camino Palmero was the name of the street where everything began. I was also wondering if you are planning to support Organ, eye and Tissue Donation in the rest of the world with the help of "Alex Bands Donate Life Rocks" on one of your following Tours xxx Thanks for the answer. All my love, Anna

Alex - Hey Anna:) You're welcome for the autograph, I'm sorry I couldn't be there in person to give it to you. Honestly, I don't have a simple answer to why I chose "We've All Been There" as a record title. I guess since that song is the first track on the album and I love it so much, it seemed like it made sense. And also, "We've All Been There" pretty much sums up the overall message in my album. Lyrically the songs speak of what we've all been through and how we are all joined by the same struggles, questions, beliefs and pleasures no matter where we're from or who we are. I am definitely going to support organ donation worldwide once I hit the road, I am just focusing on America now since it is a good place to start. Thank you for your questions and all the love to you!

Salvo from Italy - Ciao Alex, I'm Salvo from Italy, I'm a big fan of yours. I'm trying to get a career as singer, like you!!! You're a real inspiration for me since many years! Well my questions are: How was the Prince Azim's Birthday Party?? Did you enjoy it and did you play for him?? I was also wondering if you met Michael Jackson and what that was like? The pic you gave us is great but where was Jen?? *I'm a fan of hers too * I really wish the best for you, and GOOD LUCK for the new album, you really deserve to get a HUGE success!! And I'll do everything to promote it, I also manage the Official Italian Street Team on My Space with some friends!!! Do you like it? Rock on!!

Alex - Ciao Salvo! I know you well from your messages to me on Myspace! Prince Azim's party was insane! So much fun! And yes, I did play at the party along with Belinda Carlisle and Dionne Warwick. When I performed Michael Jackson was right in the front of the audience watching me the whole time! It was sooo weird! I did meet him of course…we sat at the same table together during dinner. He was really nice, but you could tell that this was a guy who has had to live a very very different life than we all, so of course he comes across strange. Jennifer was there with me, but she was actually taking that same picture at the very moment that picture was being taken by a professional photographer! Thank you for your work with the Italian Street Team! I will be needing your guy's help soon! Take care…

Liz from China (currently) - Hi Alex! I have some interesting questions about your cat, Parige, and hope you won't mind answering them :) . How old is he? How did you get him ..... you adopted from a friend or pet house, or you already had the mother cat with you? Why did you name him Parige if there's a special reason? Who takes care of the cats when you're away? Which is your favorite, Parige or Six? Just some curious thoughts. Thank you, Alex :)

Alex - Hey Liz! Parige is about 7 now. I adopted him from a local pound. I can't imagine what would have happened to him if I didn't! He was a gift to my wife Jennifer. She named him after her favorite city, Paris. But we somehow started to call him Parige. We have many friends here in LA who take care of the cats when we are away. Sixers and Parige are best friends…they lay together in little baskets in the sun all day. They are soo spoiled by us! They get everything they want. They're our little children! I don't want Sixers to know, but Parige is my favorite! He likes to cuddle and is so full of love. Thanks for the question!

Debbie - This question comes from all the fans on the AMB.com message boards. We were surprised and a bit disappointed to see "Last Goodbye" and "Lost Boy" are not on the finished track list for the new album. Was there a reason for that and is there a chance we may still hear them somewhere like on a B side single release or an extra track on a foreign release? That being said we are all so excited and impatient for your new solo album! Congrats on the completion.

Alex - Hey all on the AMB.com message boards! The album order and song choice is not totally set in stone yet, so who knows what it will be. But rest assured that no matter what happens, at the very least you will hear Last Goodbye and Lost Boy (among others) as B sides and/or extra tracks on foreign releases. Last Goodbye in particular is very special to me and I love that you guys are so fond of it! The recording of it turned out amazing…especially with all the live strings. I can't wait for you all to hear this record!!! All the love…

Jessie from Western Australia - Hey Alex, It's Jessie from Western Australia. Before I begin my questions I would like to make a few suggestions that would make me sooo happy (unlikely to happen though). Firstly, tour over to Western Australia because none of the great musicians ever come here. Except Nickelback. I went to their concert and that is still considered to be the best night of my life. Second suggestion: tour with Nickelback because your voices are so unique and would complement each other perfectly. You would maybe just have to rock it up a little bit more and Chad might have to tone it down a little. (make that tour in WA). Ok, so now for the questions.
Which was the hardest film clip to do? My guess would be "For You" because you would have to work with an entire string orchestra. At school were you any good at art and which sports did you do? (I just love drawing and springboard diving.) I understand that Chad Kroeger picked you to sing "Why don't You and I" with Santana, do you still keep contact with Chad or any of the other guys of the band?
And to finish off, I just wanted to say that judging by your replies to your fan's questions I'd say you're a pretty good guy and really down to earth. You may drive a fancy car and have your helicopter license but aren't caught up in all that famous people crap. Don't change that! And come see me in WA when you tour here with Nickelback!!!! lol

Alex - Hey Jessie:) Good suggestions. I am so looking forward to coming back to Australia for this upcoming record. The Calling only went there once and it was so long ago! I'll definitely make a point of coming over to Western Australia. As for Nickleback, I doubt they would ever tour with me, as you inferred, they have a harder sound. But not to worry, I will be touring with someone great! Hmmmm, so which video was the hardest to film? "For You" was actually quite easy, just us in front of a big screen with an orchestra pretending to play. The hardest video I've ever done was the Santana one where I'm flying around like an idiot. I really didn't want to do that video when I read the treatment (storyline), but Santana loved the idea so of course I went with it. Hanging 100 feet in the air by some giant crane and swooping around like a very ungraceful human bird was a lot of work! I had bruises all over from the harnesses that you have to wear to hang from that shit. I have a lot of respect for actors, like Toby in Spider Man…no wonder they had such a hard time getting him to do all these sequels! As for you question about Chad, I did work with him briefly when I went to his studio in Canada. He was a great guy and we had fun, albeit it very short. I met the band in passing, so it wasn't like a "keep in touch" thing. I never heard from Chad since but I'm sure we'll run into each other again in the near future. Thanks so much for the questions and don't worry, I'm not changing! See you in Australia :) All the love...

Aiste from Lithuania - Hello, Dear Alex...*...I'm Aiste from Lithuania...one girl of your huge fans list..:)..First of all, I would like to say that you and your music have changed my life substantially...now every day is a holiday for me...because I can hear your voice and songs...Thank you for all that..* ..and now my question.. You have many many songs...and some of your favorites are "anything", "could it be any harder", "stigmatized"..but which song causes particularly warm and strong feelings for you..?? because when I'm watching your live concerts it looks like every song you are performing is somehow special.....and it seems that the song "Wherever You Will Go" brings to you very soft memories to mind......thank you for sharing with us your music and amazing talent...With love, Aiste..*

Alex - Aiste in Lithuania! I've got to come to your country one day and see where my family came from! I'm happy to hear you love my music so much. Honestly, for the last two years I have been doing nothing but writing and recording my solo record so I haven't been thinking about The Calling songs too much, but they do and always will hold a very special place in my heart. I do plan to play some of my favorites live as well when I go on tour soon. Stigmatized was probably my favorite song to play live, but when it comes to which song gives me that warm and strong feeling, I would have to say it's "Could It Be Any Harder" still. That song was written about my Mom and the struggle I had with her as a child and it gets me every time! Aiste, thank you for your questions, I hope to meet you one day in Lithuania. All the love…

Tomer from Israel - Hi alex, my name is Tomer and i'm 18 years old from netanya, israel . Before I ask you my question, I would like to tell you about my best friend Aviv , who died in terrorist attack 2 years ago. Just like me aviv was a great fan of the calling, together we started a website dedicated to our beloved band and other than that we were inseparable. In the day of the occurrence Aviv went to the Sharon mall ,to buy present for his mom and I didn't accompany him cause I stupidly wanted to get some sleep. Later that day when I was informed that he was "no longer with us" i entered my room , locked the door and I cried for hours not answering my parents who called me to come out. All that time i kept thinking about him and "could it be any harder" started playing in my head. It never felt so relevant that's the end and the more i thought about it the more I wanted to die. he was my all , i felt so week , powerless. I wasn't there for him, maybe i could of saved him if i just come as i should have, done it all be different . I never be able to overcome it and every time i hear your voice my tears just burst, it takes me back to my memories. Anyway i wanted to ask if you ever felt so lonely that you cannot breathe or move on , as i feel? How do you deal with the loss of someone close? What cheers you up when you are down? and please advise me how can i overcome my sorrow? Your response means the world to me , cause your music is the most close i can get to aviv.

Alex - Hi Tomer:) I know you well, we have exchanged emails once before I think on Myspace or something. I am so sorry for your loss of Aviv. I'm sure you've heard this before, but you can't blame yourself for this. You can't rearrange that day in your mind and ask the "what if's" over and over. You couldn't have changed what happened. It's things like that which makes you question everything about the world and us people who inhabit it. Your sorrow is normal of course and believe it or not will subside to a "dealable" level eventually. I can not relate to you with this unfortunately cause I have been lucky enough to never experience something as horrible, but I do know that time is the only prescription for your pain. It's the hardest one to swallow cause it takes so damn long, but I do believe we go through things like this to test us and make us stronger for the future. I wish you the best and all my love to you and Aviv...I'm sure he is looking over you, maybe now even your guardian angel.

Sparky from New Jersey - Dear Alex band, first off i would like to say how AMAZING and influential you are! and how much I LOVE YOUR HAIR! .. it makes me happy ^.^ alright.. what is it like when u wake up in the morning, I mean after seeing you at Irving Plaza 01 i couldn't get over how amazing the concert was and then I thought.. what is alex's life like off set?... so yes.. my question is, What is your life like off the set, when you are not on tour?

Alex - Hey Sparky:) My life is always different and ever changing day to day. Sometimes I'll be bouncing from studio to studio working, the hours are always changing and so are the places and people I'm working with. Other days when I'm not working in the studio on my project, I end up working at home for other artists and different kinds of things. The odd days I find myself with a little free time, I catch up on spending time with my family and friends, fix problems with my house that are never ending, or run long over due errands around the city. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have a 9-5 job, go to the same place everyday, have a schedule that doesn't change constantly...be able to plan things ahead, know what I'm in for. But with that said, I know I'm extremely lucky with everything and I can definitely say I'm never bored! Thanks for the question. All the best...

Karen & Zohar from Israel - Hey Alex! Our names are Zohar and Karen and we're from Israel, we were wondering whether you and the rest of the original touring members of The Calling band-namely; Sean, Nate, and Billy still keep in touch. And are you in touch with the last touring band members? Israel is a very small country, and many artists don't choose to perform here for a certain reason, and even if they do , most of them cancel in the last minute like Kelly Clarkson and Red Hot Chili Peppers. What do you think about it? We have been The Calling fans ever since we heard "Wherever You Will Go" for the for the first time on MTV, and one of our biggest dreams is seeing you perform live:-).Sadly enough we will have to join the army in a couple of months (We'er 18) and just now when were old enough to travel by ourselves abroad,we won't be able to go and see you perform because of the army-So we were wondering if you have any intention to come and perform here. We know you are not the one who decides the countries for your tour but we are sure you have some imput. Thanks for your time.

Alex - Hey guys:) I would love to come to Israel one day and perform. I'll do my best to make that really happen. Regarding the old touring band guys, I haven't spoken to Nate in years, but I see Sean around playing with other artists all the time and we talk, and I have also spoken to Billy recently to catch up. The guys from the last tour, like Chops and Corey, are all off doing other projects and I haven't talked to them in years. I am, of course, great friends with Arms (Daniel) and we wrote three of the songs on my record together. He'll be helping me put together a band this time around and getting us sounding great. And of course he'll also be playing guitar. I am very aware of the whole Army at 18 thing in Israel and I can only imagine how difficult that is. One of the producers I worked with named Tal was born and raised in Israel and had to go to the Army as did his wife, and I have heard what it's like. You guys will get through it and I'll be waiting for you! Thanks for the questions and good luck. All the love....

PeiRu from Malaysia - Hello Alex! This is PeiRu from Malaysia. I'm nucking futs about your music (The Calling is most probably the only band I like which my guy friends would agree to) and yeah, I've got a few questions for you. LOL. Firstly, what do you make of the situation where bands like Hanson are going independent nowadays? Is there a certain kind of mood/atmosphere in the studios which you need when you wanna record a song? Lastly, do you have lots of artwork hanging around your house? PS: I hope my drawing of you and the fruit (it's published in the site) isn't too scary. I was just playing around with the facial expressions. :P

Alex - Nucking Futs!? That's awesome:) I was in Malaysia once for 20 minutes stuck in a plane...I would have liked to have gotten out and seen your country! Next Time:) You know, what bands like Hanson are doing now is the way the entire music industry will be very soon. Major labels are slowly fading and it is getting easier and easier for artists to go it alone with the help of online stores like iTunes and independent promotors. I give Hanson and bands like that credit for being some of the first to lead the way. Regarding your question about the mood or atmosphere I need in the studio when I record, I really don't need anything special at all. I close my eyes when I sing, so it doesn't really matter what's around me, and it's really the people I'm working with on the songs that dictate the atmosphere. Good people, good recording. And lastly, I do have lots of artwork hanging around my house. Some favorite fan artwork that I don't have in storage and a bunch of my Great Grandfather, Max Band's paintings. I haven't seen your picture of me and the fruit...what site can I find it on? All the love...

(From Debbie - I did let Alex know he could find it on this site, of course ;)

French Street Team - Hi Alex ! We are the French Street Team ! We've been supporting you from day one and cannot wait till your solo album comes out. We love and miss you! Good luck on the record!

Julien -Your songs totally changed my life and my vision of it. They have made me more sensitive emotionally. When you were a teenager, how did you cope with your own sensitivity? And how did people react to it? Thanks for all and I wish you all the best for 2007.

Alex - I was a very sensitive child, mostly due to the fact that I went through a lot of tough crap. I wasn't very vocal about my feelings and just bottled it all up. I ended up paying for that later in life. My music was my only outlet, and anyone who saw me perform or heard my songs could never understand where it all came from. I was writing about life lessons and lost loves and friends dying, etc. Way beyond my years. I guess I'm just weird! It's good to hear my songs had some impact on your life and your overall vision. I got a whole new batch of them for you! I wish you all the best!

Ileana - If you can change one thing in your life , what is that ? Bye , Thank you so much , and Take care.

Alex - Ah, the toughest question of them all. If you're someone like myself who believes things happen for a reason, then you wouldn't want to change anything whether bad or good…cause that would change the ultimate outcome of your future. Are there things I would change? Of course! Mostly personal issues and family related things that I can't explain. But we learn from the shitty things we have to go through and that makes us make better decisions later in life. So even the things I would want to change most likely serve a purpose and could in some way lead to good things. I don't know, it's all too confusing and my brain isn't working right now! ;) Thank you for the question though! All the love…..

Sophie (of the Donate Life show in L.A.) - When you play live, do you like big stages or rather small scenes?

Alex - Hey Sophie! Good to hear from you:) You know, this is a very tough question. I really, really love playing big shows. There is such a power and energy when thousands of people all come together and share a common love. But, it's overwhelming for me…and all the faces mix together and I have no way of meeting everyone and reaching out to each person individually, which I love to do. So, with that being said, I do also enjoy intimate shows and acoustic sets...it's more romantic and engaging. Right about now I'd take either! I'm dying to get back on the road. All the love…

Claire - Do you have some news of Sacha ?

Alex - Hey Claire! I love Sacha and miss him, but I'm sad to say that I really don't have much news about him. We don't speak very often. He did recently get married though, which is great! And I know he works in Las Vegas for Barry Manilow. If I do talk to him I'll tell him you say hi!

KarimaYou passed your Helicopter Pilot's license a few months ago, are you planning on buying your own helicopter now? :) Why this urge for flying anyway? I'd be scared to death! Fly safe :)

Alex - Hey Karima! Where are my crepes? ;) You know, it is much cheaper and safer to rent a helicopter every time I want to fly…so unless I sell 20 million records(!), I don't think I will be buying one. I have always had the urge to fly…I have dreamt about flying almost every night of my life. Of course that was flying around like Super Man, but a helicopter is about the closest as we humans can get;) I have taken many people up in the helicopter and flown them around and most of them enjoy it, but some of my friends have totally freaked out! Jennifer only flew with me for 2 minutes before she had to go back and land. She's afraid of heights. It probably didn't help that I took the doors off for that flight! Anyway, I love it and I promise to be safe:) Thanks for the questions and I'll see you soon! All the love….

The French Street Team wishes you all the best for 2007 and for your solo career. We'll always be there for you no matter what. We hope to see you soon in France. Good Luck ;

Alex - Thank you guys. You have been an important asset to me through the years and I so appreciate your support. I have many great memories with you and I can't wait to make new ones!

Delia from Italy - Delia from Italy - First of all, i have to introduce myself. My name is Delia and i am graduating my studies in Padua University(Italy). I am working on a project that i'm conducting in collaboration with Padua University. The central topic is the relation between the artist and the videomaker. Here are my questions...
Do you participate to the screen play?
Do you have a favorite directors you have collaborated with? Usually, is the videomaker your choice or is your record company to choose?
What's the budget usually assigned to a video?
What kind of videoclip do you prefer: a narrative one or a performance video? Do you have a favorite videoclip?
Thanks a lot, anyway!I hope to hear from you soon...and Happy New Yeeeeaaaaar! All the best wishes for the next year!I wish you all the happiness in the world and that all your dreams come true...^_____^

Alex - Do you participate to the screen play? - I'm not sure what the question is!? But I think you mean, "do I participate in writing the concept for my videos?" The answer is yes, most of the time. Unless the director has already come up with an amazing idea himself...which honestly I have yet to see!

Do you have a favorite directors you have collaborated with? - I couldn't say I have a favorite...there have been many. I don't actually think I've found a favorite yet!

Usually, is the videomaker your choice or is your record company to choose? - Everyone first reads many different treatments or "screen plays" for the video. Each one has been written by a different director. Sometimes you choose the treatment you like and get the director who wrote it even though you don't know his work. And other times you just choose a director because you know he's good even though the treatment or screen play he wrote was terrible;) That's when I would usually end up writing something.

What's the budget usually assigned to a video? - Well, the music business has changed drastically over the last 5 years. Videos aren't even a very big tool in selling records anymore. When I first started with The Calling, the average video cost was anywhere from $150,000 to $350,000. Nowadays, unless your a huge artist with the money to blow, videos are being made much much cheaper. The artist also has to pay back a portion of the cost of videos with the money he makes selling records. And now with very little records being sold, artists and labels aren't able to make the videos they would want.

What kind of videoclip do you prefer: a narrative one or a performance video? - I prefer a mix of the two...or maybe even just a storyline. I'm kind of sick of videos where you see some band performing on a roof top of some building in a downtown random city.

Do you have a favorite videoclip? - I have a few, but one of my favorites was "Tonight, Tonight" from The Smashing Pumpkins

Thank you for all your questions and good luck with your project! Ciao:)

Julia from Argentina - Hey Alex! How are you? I hope you're doing great! My questions are: We've been seeing many famous couples breaking up all the time, then I was thinking, what's your secret to keep a steady relationship in this crazy environment, with all the success?! How do you and Jen deal with the distance and the jealousy? And, what do you consider the most important thing in a relationship? Thank you a lot, and thanks Debbie for the opportunity. I hope to see you soon here in Argentina, or maybe in Brazil, if you don't come here on the next tour. ;) Take care, Julia

Alex - Hey Julia! Good question. There really isn't a secret or special way to keep a steady relationship in this crazy environment, or any environment that I know of. All I can say is that honesty and open communication are the two most important things that I've found in a relationship. You also have to be forgiving to some degree. You're both going to make mistakes on the path to learning how to act towards each other and what each other's needs are. It takes time and practice. Jennifer and I had a hard time the first few years we were together and even broke up at one point. But we learned an important lesson from it all and have never faltered since. You also can't get wrapped up in the whole bullshit world that the entertainment business is. We keep ourselves distant from that scene unless it happens to be a part of our work once in a while. I really hope to see you too in Argentina...I would love to come there. I know I'll be in Brazil, but I'll do my best to come to you too! All the love...

Kelly from the US - Seasons greetings Alex! I was wondering how you celebrate the holidays. What was the best present you ever got? And can you share with us your most memorable New Year's Eve? If you were asked to contribute to a holiday CD again, which song would you prefer to sing? Lastly, are you making progress learning to fiddle? Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Happy New Year! All the best, Kelly

Alex - Hey Kelly! Happy Holidays:) And Happy New Year! Let's see, how do I celebrate the Holidays...well, like most of us I spend time with my family and my wife's family as well. Although I'm half Jewish I've always celebrated Christmas so there's lots of the Christmasy spirit going around! Christmas songs playing through the house, a tree all decorated, stockings (even ones for my cats!), making fires, eating lots of food, all that stuff. The best present I ever got? Hmmmm, that's a hard one. I guess that's got to be a guitar my Uncle bought me one Christmas when I was around 8 years old. That was my first guitar, so I owe a lot to that present! The most memorable New Year's Eve I had was probably a few years ago when I was up at a ski resort with my wife and her family and everyone was drunk and we had these little plastic toy instruments at this nice restaurant and we were all playing them really loud and squeaky and annoying everyone...good times. If I were to do a song on another Holiday album (which I'm sure I will), I would probably like to sing John Lennon's classic, Happy Christmas (War Is Over)...that's one of my favorites. I have made absolutely no progress trying to fiddle...the violin is a really hard instrument and I definitely need lessons. I'll get to it one of these days. Thank you for the questions and Happy New Year! All the love...

Emma from England - Alex, I really love "Why Don't You and I?" because right now it's really relevant to how I feel. Would you like to collaborate with other artists in the future? and who would be the person you would most like to collaborate with? Also, when you're recording your new songs do you ever wonder what affect they'll have on your audience? I love stigmatized, by the way, it's one of my favourites. Can't wait for the new album. Your songs light up the darkness, thank you so much for giving them to us. Love to you, Jen and the cats! from Emma in England

Alex - Hey Emma in England:) I would love to collaborate again with an artist. I have written with a lot of artists on my record (some you might have even heard of) but not in the sort of way "Why Don't You And I" was done. Santana has a special thing going for him that I haven't really seen another artist capture…and mostly because he is a lead guitar player who can add another layer underneath a vocalist such as myself. So, being a singer, and not counting just writing a song with someone, your question of a collaboration would pertain more towards a duet with some vocalist I admire. And we all know Bono is one of them…I hope that could happen one day! I'm just trying to meet the guy first! I will tell you, without giving away too much, that there might be a collaboration on my record for a song or two. You could end up hearing me sing a song I wrote with another vocalist who is well known…but you're just going to have to wait! To answer your other question…I'm always thinking how my new songs will affect an audience…that's my job! Although I write songs for myself and because it's all I know to do, I mostly write them for you guys…for you to connect to them each individually on many different levels. Of course I never know how a certain song will be perceived by you all, I'm pretty good at telling which ones stand out amongst the rest. There will be "singles" on this record for radio of course, and they're going to be incredible, but there will also be deeper songs that only you guys will understand. Much love to you from Me, Jen and the cats;)

Erica and Jessica from Brazil - Hello Alex!! How are u?? First we'd like to say it's a big honor to make some questions to you, because you're a person who we most admire in this world...so thank you very much for the opportunity... We would like to know first about 'Stigmatized'...where did the idea to put an "extra verse" in the song come from and why do you play that just at the live shows? Why did you choose it from the demo Not There, do you think that the two songs have some connection, some common meaning? and why is the demo 'Not There' not available? It's very beautiful!!! Is there an instrument you don't know how to play, but you'd like to know? Thank you so much for your attention, we love you so much!!! We hope see you soon here in Brazil. Kisses...Erica and Jessica

Alex - Erica and Jessica in Brazil! I hope to see you guys soon in Brazil too! So, Stigmatized's extra verse….let me see…I have to try to remember how that came about because it's been quite a while! As you mentioned that extra verse did come from an old, old song called "Not There". I think once we were playing the end of Stigmatized during a sound check before a show and the chords to that happen to remind us of the bridge of "Not There". Then one of us had the idea of connecting it to the end of Stigmatized because the lyrics were so strong and somehow happened to fit. Anyway, the songs really had no connection to each other per say, but for some reason it worked really well and became a constant for almost all our shows. There's no demo of "Not There" floating around because we never recorded that song! Maybe some day I'll play it in concert for those of you who are interested in hearing it. To answer your last question, the violin is the instrument I don't know how to play but would like to know. I actually bought one the other day and I'm currently trying to figure it out…but it's tough! Anyway, all the love to you guys and Obrigado:)

All your "Married Couple" fans from Debbie - I'm sending this on behalf of all the married couple fans out there. Yes, there are husband and wife fans! Maybe Jen would be a better one to answer this question so feel free to consult her ;) Although we all love our spouses there are certain little things they do that drive us up the wall and make us crazy! So our question is......what are the things you do that make Jen crazy....you know like leaving the cap off the toothpaste, the seat up in the bathroom...socks on the floor. Spill it! I know the guy fans out there would just love to let their significant others know that Alex Band is not perfect either ;) xo .... Me :)

Alex - I think I'll answer this one;) Jen and I have been together for over 6 years now, so of course there are certain things about each of us that annoys the other. But believe it or not, for the most part, we get along pretty damn well. When it comes to me, I can think of a couple things that drive Jen crazy. Like when she asks me to get her something or find something and I look for it and I can never find it…then she comes in and finds it in like one second. I think that is a common man thing. Why is that!? What's wrong with us? She also doesn't like when I'm supposed to do the dishes or something and I put it off until like late at night when everything's gotten really gross already..…same goes for taking the trash out or cleaning the cat box. But I mean, come on, who wants to do that shit!? I like to wait until I'm so tired that my brain is not even functioning enough to comprehend what I'm doing so that I can't dislike it as much as I do. Make sense? :) There's loads more things, but we'll save them for another time.

Roux from New Jersey - Dear Alex, First off, I'd just like to tell you that I am a HUGE fan. Seriously, you're a big influence on me and I must listen to your music a hundred times a day. Ha, I'm sure that's how everyone starts off a question for you. But anyway, How do you get over major periods of writers and musical block? Really, what inspires you? I'm suffering from it, so I though I'd ask a professional (especially one I listen to every day). Thanks so much! Much Love, Roux

Alex - What's up Roux?! It's funny you ask this question now cause I'm currently taking a week or two break from the studio to try to write one more genius "hit" song. I want this record to be a good as possible, so I won't stop writing for it until the day it comes out! But that's easier said then done....I've written about 40 songs for this record already in the last year and a half and I'd be lying to say that songs are just pouring out of me still! The question of where I get inspiration from is a tough one. Listening to some of my favorite music always helps...I'll listen to some amazing song and get the urge to write something just as great. Of course I don't always end up with that great song...but if I try enough times I will. My manager is always kicking me in the ass to top myself as a writer. Sometimes I want to tell him to shut up! But other times it does get me going just enough to write that next great song. Anyway, sorry I can't be of more help, but finding inspiration is different for everyone. Good luck to you!

Maria from Italy - Hi alex!, I’m one of your Italian fans!!!! My name is Maria and I’m 14…..well….I want ask you how does it feel knowing that in all the world the people talk about you? Would you like sometime to be just an American boy with his wife? Second I’d like to ask you when did you understand that music is your world and how did you achieve your hope? What advice do you have for others. Every night of my life I dream to be a famous singer and to explain my heart to all the world….. I hope I’ll be succeed in it! Sorry for my horrible English ….. bye bye p.s I’ve got 900 picture of you in my computer…. bye

Alex - 900 pictures! Wow! I didn't even know there were that many pictures of me floating around out there:) You know, it feels great to know that and to know that people talk about me all around the world. It's a strange feeling I must say when I really think about it, but it makes me proud for what I've accomplished and it's what keeps me going. But sometimes when I'm here in Los Angeles just living my normal life day to day, I forget all that...going on tour is always an immediate reminder and I am so looking forward to next year! You know, I always knew that music was my life...I started singing into a tape recorder when I was about 5...writing songs in my head and performing them for my family. The older I got and the more instruments I learned, the more music became my life. I remember when I got my first guitar when I was 8 years old...the songs just started coming alive...it made me feel alive, and I loved it. I was determined to have music be my profession and I haven't stopped since. It's always an uphill battle, no matter how much success you have, so you can never let down your guard, you can't stop trying. I wish you the best! Good luck! All the love....

Hayley Leah from England - Hi Alex! I’m Hayley Leah from Manchester, England. I hope that you have a successful solo career. I definitely think that you’ve got what it takes to be a solo artist, as you’re talented and gifted in writing songs and music. You've got both the sexy and gorgeous looks and voice, which is also powerful and mature. However, as a Calling fan, when I first found out that you’re going solo, I couldn’t help feeling worried that the reason why you’d decided to go solo is because you’d fallen out and had a bust-up with Aaron. Can you reassure me that this really isn’t the case? Also, are you and Aaron ever going to work together on a future Calling album?

Alex - Hello Hayley! Thank you for the kind words:) And thank you for continuing to support me now that I've gone solo. Honestly, to answer your question about my decision…it was for many reasons and Aaron indeed was one of them. First off, The Calling's first record was a huge success, where as the following one was not…and our label didn't seem so interested in proceeding with a third. Add that to the fact that Aaron had stepped aside from the visual and touring aspect of the band again, it seemed like my decision was almost made for me. I have always had the intention of returning to The Calling some day and I still do. I love Aaron and care for him deeply, but I would be lying to say that we are still best friends, or even close to that. I wish him all the best in what he's doing now and I reach out to him all the time. I hope that one day we can team up again and create some great music together. Thank you so much for the question and I hope I'll be seeing you in Manchester next year!

Tina from Italy - Hi Alex, I'm Tina from the beautiful Italy. how are you and your Jennifer? really hope you're fine! and how's the recording? ok...let's go on! I have 3 questions: 2 of these are quite stupid.. not so important... but the last one is... First one: do you like pasta?I like it and I'm a very good cook and if you come to Italy you'll see, no, you'll taste! oh, I can even invent a dish with your name! it must be very tasty :) Second one: According to me you're just the personification of perfection but what's your best quality and what's your worst character defect? Third one - I think you matured still more and I'm proud of it. The question is about Please, my favourite song of your solo career. I think it talks about God but what caused you to write this song? has your faith grown? Thank you for writing this song, it makes me think a lot! Thank you for finding time to answer! It means a lot to your fans! I hope we'll meet here in Italy as soon as possible! Lots of love to you and your family! biiiig hugs!!! and kisses!!! still LOVE Tina

Alex - Ciao Tina;) Jennifer and I are doing great…but we have been so busy that we barely get to see each other! Thanks for asking:) So, here are the answers to your questions:
1) I do love pasta of course! Both my parents grew up in Italy and I have spent a lot of time there myself…so how could I not love pasta!? My Dad is a great chef and makes the best penne arrabiata ever. I'm looking forward to tasting your "Alex Band Pasta"! ;)
2) Thanks for thinking I'm perfect, but I'm far from it. If anything I come from a pretty screwed up upbringing and I deal with my own demons everyday. I've already answered what I don't like about myself physically in a recent question here on Debbie's site, so check it out. No one's perfect…it's just the business I'm in that makes us appear to be that way.
3) "Please" is about God, or faith in general. I grew up with a Jewish Father who didn't practice and a Christian Mother whose only tie to Jesus was celebrating Christmas. Needless to say I had to find my own religion. And in this song I'm asking God what that should be…what should I believe? In a world so full of different religions and so many people fighting over whose belief is the correct one, it frustrates me to think that they all really boil down to the same thing.

August 28, 2006

Annalena from Germany - Hey Alex! How are you, hope everythings well at home and job works well too! First of all i wanted to say, that it means a lot to me to ask you a question, cause I guess that you're a very special person, how you care for fans. You helped me a lot with your music and I found a bunch of great new friends through you!! So my first question is, do you try to recognize and keep in mind the face of every fan you meet and if so, why is it important to you? (don't know if you remember me, that shy girl after the greatest acoustic set back at einslive, probably not) So to go on, if you could choose a thing which you can do perfectly, what would it be, still singing and making music? (I guess you are perfectly doing this!!) Also, why did you choose Donate Life to spend your support and no other charity, why does it mean so much to you? (I am so proud you're doing this, thanks!) Love, health and all you want, keep rocking, thanks for caring and sorry for my english - *hugs* Annalena from germany

Alex - Hey Annalena from Germany:) I do try to remember every fan's face as best I can, but it's usually the faces I see more than once that I can remember easily. Unfortunately I can't say I remember meeting you, but next year when I'm back in Germany on tour...be sure to come up to me and say, "Hey! Remember my face!". :) If I could choose one thing to do perfectly it would be writing a song...although there really isn't such thing as a "perfect song" I guess! Maybe that means a song that every single person thinks is amazing...then it would be a huge hit and I could tour the world forever! So, that sounds good:) Regarding your question about Donate Life...I chose this charity because it stood for a cause that was close to my heart. I also chose it because it is possible to totally fix the problem of there not being enough organ donors out there...if I try hard enough I could make a difference in a huge way and I have already, with your guys' help! There's like over 250 million people in this country and all we need is a few hundred thousand of them to choose to donate and then lives wouldn't be lost everyday. I'm trying not just to fix the problem, but to totally end it. And there is very good news in my life now...my family member who was sick is now 100% healthy after a major surgery! They're totally healed!!! Anyway, thank you for the questions and I'll be looking out for you in Germany...I'll take a mental picture of your face when I see you! All the love...

Mariana & Melissa from Brazil - Hi Alex!! We are Mariana and Melissa, from Brazil. How are you and your family? hope you're fine =) we love you and your songs, and the new songs are amazing. Our questions are: Does "Surrender" have a special meaning? If you would do a video for it, how would it be? Which part of your body do you like the most? and which do you dislike? When did you realize Jennifer is the one for you? We're sorry for doing so many questions! lol thank you very much for answering us, and thanks Debbie ^^ we can't wait to see you again, good luck with the new cd ;) thank you!!!!

Alex - Hello Brazil Girls! I'm doing great! And how are you guys? So you want to know about Surrender huh? I was thinking of a particular person I knew when I wrote that. This person couldn't seem to stay in one relationship without carrying out another at the same time. Maybe they just liked the thrill of cheating, or maybe they were never happy with just one person? I don't know. But the song talks of those moments when let's say, a married man, strays from his wife to enjoy a night with his other lover. Being raised in Hollywood, this seems like a normal activity, but when children are involved it can ruin lives. I tried as best I could to put myself into the position of this guy and what it would feel like to have one family you love, but then sneak away to this other secret person you can't stop thinking about. You want to stay with them, but you know at the end of the night, you have to go back to your normal life and this odd relationship can never be more than just that. Make sense? If we had ever done a video, it would have definitely depicted just that situation. OK, let's move on! The part of my body I like the most?...that would be my face. And the part I like the least? The would be the rest of me! I'm too skinny, I have bad posture, my ribs stick out and are messed up cause of my screwed up back..blah blah blah! Alright, the answer to your final question is easy...I knew Jen was the one for me the night I met her on a blind date...we ended up sitting and talking for like 6 hours straight and then she kissed me first! Thanks for the questions you guys...I can't wait to come back to Brazil soon!!!

Debbie....from...well you know ;) - I read an interesting article about Ron Fair the other day in the LA Times. Now that he is heading up Geffen records I hear that you will be releasing your CD under Geffen instead of Interscope. Why the change and what will this mean as far as release and promotion of your new record. I have to say I was particularly pleased with this part of the interview "Fair says he will shift Geffen's focus from a mishmash of genres to singer-driven albums and the most commercial of genres: pop", since that seems to show his focus is definitely heading in the direction of your style of album. Anyone wishing to read the article can do so here - http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-fair14aug14,0,6339623.story?coll=la It goes without saying we are all anxiously awaiting this particular album ;) Lots of Love.....

Alex - Who are you;) Ok, yes I did read this article and yes, Ron is now the "Head Cheese" of both Geffen and A&M....and yes, my record will be now coming out on Geffen. The change in labels doesn't really affect the way the record is promoted, but it does affect the amount of money and man power that's put behind me. Ron and I go way back and I know he's going to give my record the best push possible, far better than a previous label I won't mention;) I'm extremely happy where I am and I'm so looking forward to finally getting this record out there! All the love...

July 28, 2006

Deborah from the Netherlands - Hi Alex, I wanted to ask what you think about the fact that there almost all women/girls are fan of yours and The Calling? Also, how did you meet Jennifer?

Alex - Hey! Mostly all girl fans? I think it's great! What's better than having almost all my fans be women? I'm a very lucky guy! Now I do have some cool male fans, even some straight ones! I appreciate them just as much and I do hope I get some more fans on this new record that are dudes:) OK, let's see...how did I meet Jennifer? You know, I don't think anyone's ever asked this before. My Dad was dating a girl who was friends with Jennifer's best friend. Aaron and Jennifer's best friend set me up on a blind date with Jennifer! Jennifer had been given my music a week before we met and she had fallen in love with it and I had watched her on a few TV shows and knew what she looked like...so it wasn't quite a blind date! And we've been together now almost 6 years since that 1st date, pretty crazy! Anyway, thanks for the questions:) All the love...

Amanda from The USA - A Happy Greeting To You Alex! This is Amanda from Pulaski, Virginia, formally from Phoenix, Arizona. While I was living out west I was fortunate enough to see the Calling play in Santa Ana, California and meet you and the rest of the guys backstage. It was such a pleasure talking with you one on one and I still refer to it as, "The Best Day Ever!" Thank you for always being so kind, open and down-to-earth with each and every one of your fans. Speaking as a long time fan, it means a lot. My question for you is: Are their any other hobbies or things that you find a pleasure in collecting? I know of your love for cars and music of course, but most everyone has some hidden collective fascination. As for me, my Dad instilled a love in me for collecting sea glass along the beautiful shores of America, exquisite shells, Native American relics in the lush Virginia fields and a deep appreciation for antiques. Not only did it bond and give us a closer relationship, but it opened my eyes to all the many hidden treasures around me. Given your rich and talented heritage, has someone passed down a similar well loved hobbie on to you? I'd love to know as well as many other of your supportive fans. I can't wait to see you again live and hear all the beautiful and inspiring music that I know you will give us. I wish you all the best in everything you do! All The Love To YOU Alex! Amanda

Alex - Amanda:) I'm glad I could contribute to your "best day ever"! Hopefully we can have another one of those some time soon. You know I don't have a particular thing I collect. I was into the kokopelli thing for a while until I amassed so much stuff that I had to take a break! I do have a passion for cars, but I don't have the $$ to be a collector just yet in life! Maybe one day:) Lately, other than music, I have been very much into helicopter flying. After 8 months of training, I'm about a week away from getting my license finally...that is as long as I pass my final test! I had to do 50 hours of flight training with an instructor, 10 hours of solo flight time, an impossibly hard written test and 10 more hours of ground school...quite a lot to fit into my schedule, but it is a hobby of mine these days and I really enjoy it. When I'm at my place in Florida I too like to walk on the beach and collect interesting shells and sea glass. My Dad collected comics and bizarre horror movie shit, not really my thing, so he didn't pass on those fascinations. Anyway, it was good to hear from you and I hope to see you soon. All the love...

Ingrid from Holland - Hey Alex, it's me, Ingrid from Holland, if you remember me. I just got 2 simple questions. One; do you ever really look trough the fanbook i gave to you backstage at the Melkweg, Amsterdam? And two, how would you describe the new album in few words? And for the rest, hope to see you soon again, if you are coming back to Amsterdam. Oh and I also want to compliment you on your memory. The last I saw you, you remembered my hair color and age. Even though you see so many fans, you still remember certain details. All the love, Ingrid

Alex - Hey Ingrid! How are you? I haven't seen you in forever! :( Of course I looked at the fanbook you gave me when we played the Melkweg...I still have it in a special place I keep all my fanbooks. I so appreciate it and I always will! Let's see, how can I describe my new album in a few words? That's tough. I would say it's very emotional, big, heartfelt, honest, and passionate. It will rock just as much as The Calling records, but also have some amazing ballads. I'm sure I'll be coming back to Amsterdam when I go back on tour and I hope we can see each other again then...and yes, I will remember you as always;) All the love...

Alexandra from England - Hey Alex, Alex from the UK here, my question is what music influenced you in growing up, what artists did you look up to and for what reason?, also is there anything that you still want to achieve, i am sure that you will have a very successful solo career with all of us supporting you but is there anything that you think "yeah i wanna do that before i die". This doesn't necessarily have to be associated with your singing career.

Alex - Hey Alexandra from England! Good to hear from you:) I grew up a huge fan of older rock that my Dad played around the house. The Beatles, Led Zeplin, David Bowie, etc. The only bands of my generation that greatly influenced me growing up were Pearl Jam, Bon Jovi, and U2 of course. There's so many thing I still want to achieve. Music wise it would be to win a Grammy and most importantly to have a sustaining solo career...to be taken seriously as a song writer and write the kind of songs that last forever. Personally, I want to have kids...that's my biggest goal in life. I'm hoping this solo record does really well so I can get to a comfortable place where I can begin a family with Jen. That would be so awesome! A little Alex! Thanks for the questions. All the love

Suzanna from Brazil - Hi Alex, how are you doing? I am a huge fan of your voice and your music.I wanna know until what point the need to sell a lot of records influences your choice of what songs you are going to put on your album? or is the choice of the songs by the songs that you identify with the most? I consider your voice one of the best voices that I´ve ever heard! I wanna know if you ever made any kind of singing classes and if you have any special care in your voice to keep it so beautiful?? bye bye and kisses

Alex - Hello Suzanna! I'm doing great! And you? I'm flattered to hear you think my voice is one of the best! That means a lot to me:) When it comes to selecting songs for the album it really just comes down to what songs are the best...those are usually the ones that are singles anyway. I guess "the best" means the songs that everyone agrees are the best, not just the ones I think are the best. There's a lot of politics involved as usual and that leads to some songs being put on a record because your label are forcing you to put them on. I wish I could call all the shots! I did have a few singing lessons when I was much younger to learn how to warm up my voice, but that's about it. I really don't do anything special to care for it except when I'm on tour. When you're singing your lungs out every night it can take a toll on your voice and it's my job to keep it in tip top shape. But once in a while there's only so much you can do before your voice says "#*$&^ you! I'm leaving!". That's when you call in the voice doctor! Thank you and send my love to all the Brazilians. Bye bye and kisses to you!

Kelly from Alexandria, VA - Yes, Alex. There really is an ALEXandria. (In Virginia) I loved that you used strings in "For You"! Did you arrange the orchestration yourself? What kind of musical training have you had? Also, you come from such a diversely talented family. Most gifted people are great at everything they do. Or, maybe they just never do anything halfway. Do you have artistic ability also? Any other talents that you are willing to share with your fans? One last one...Imagine that you are just starting out in the music business and have auditioned for "American Idol". How far do you think you wouldgo?. Thanks to you and to Debbie for always finding the time for us, Kelly......

Alex - ALEXANDRIA! Cool! I knew it had to exist;) Yah, the strings in "For You" are very interesting. It's one of the only songs I've ever recorded with a real full orchestra of strings. I had some of the original melody ideas, but we brought in a professional on that song to arrange them. The musician "Beck" has a father who is a very well known string composer and we were blessed to have him work with us. I really haven't had any musical training except for some guitar lessons growing up. I pretty much taught myself what I know today. I do come from a very talented family, although I wouldn't say most gifted people are great at everything they do...you don't know my family! We're just about as f*cked up as everyone else and we all have our faults. Music is really where my artistic heart lies, although I do like to paint...walls that is! I just bought a new house and I've been putting in a little time here and there to paint a bunch of the rooms. Regarding your last question, without sounding like an asshole, I truly believe I would go all the way in American Idol. I'm glad I don't have to go that route, but sometimes I wonder where I'd be if I did. Some of those people who make it to the top ten are horrible and others are very talented so there's no telling where I'd fit in. I've also noticed people who are more talented than others getting voted off early on, so maybe I wouldn't last? For me though it's all about singing the songs I write and with American Idol you really are just a vessel for whatever crap your label makes you sing. Anyway, I hope to see you soon in Alexandria, Virginia when I go back on tour. Thanks so much for the questions. All the love...

Ivana from Slovakia - Hey Alex! First of all I´m sorry because of my miserable English. I hope you´ll understand me because it’s very important for me. I observe your life although from huge distance and even though I don´t know you personally, unfortunately, I know you are fantastic person! It´s absolutely clear to me! O.K. There are my "maybe“ stupid questions: Everybody has certain idol and you surely too (Bono from U2, I guess:)) and I´m curious if you had an opportunity to meet him all of a sudden on the street what would you do? What reaction would You have? I´m asking because if I have the most beautiful day of my life and meet you I´ll probably pass out:) My second question is which one of your gorgeous songs was the most difficult work for you to write and which one to perform? And the last question is which school subject was your favorite and which one was your worst? Thank You so much for your answers!!! Hope, someday, I´ll meet you and will see your concert, It´s my lifelong dream! I can´t wait to listen your new album and see you at least in TV! Take care! All the love! Ivana PS: I´m from miniature state of central Europe, from Slovakia, just to know you have your big and devoted fans also in such small and far state:)

Alex - Hey! I've been wanting to meet Bono forever…I'm sure if I did, I would draw a blank and stumble over my words, then regret being such a dumb ass! So, when you finally meet me, don't be shy! Hmmm, which song was the most difficult to write and record? That would have to be "Our Lives". It was one of those songs that went through so many changes in lyrics and arrangement and production. By the time it was finally all done, I had heard it go through so many changes that I didn't even know what to think about it anymore! "Your Hope" was the most difficult song to perform live…so much so that we never performed it! Vocally it was impossible to get through and we just couldn't get it to sound live with the band the way it sounded on the record. To answer your last question, my favorite subject in school was Math. I was almost always an A student in Math and I didn't even need to try very hard to grasp any of it! I just "got it" for some reason. I've read that there is a connection between musicians and math. From experience I can say that's probably true! My worst subject was Chorus believe it or not! I actually got a D one year in Chorus! I just never wanted to sing the lame songs they made us sing, so I would spend the whole class goofing off and getting in trouble! Anyway, thank you so much for the questions and I'm looking forward to finally meeting you one day soon. And don't worry, I'll catch you if you pass out! ;) All the love…

Alex from the USA - Hey Alex, how’s life? Well my name is Alex as well, you probably don’t remember me but I was the girl at the Wine Festival show, that had the Korean Picture Book of The Calling that you had signed for me, I am really shy and couldn’t say anything so I just shook your hand. That was my first concert I have ever seen and I'm glad I got a chance to see you in concert. I just wanted to say thank you so much for your awesome music, it has helped me so much through the hardest of times, if it wasn't for your music I probably wouldn't be here right now, it was because of your song "Your Hope". I know you have heard this a million of times but I had to tell you thank you so much! My first question is....When something unexpected happens on tour like changing show plans suddenly, do you kind of freak out and don’t know what to do or do you always have a plan for something like that?...and my last question is have you ever fallen on stage during a show or have been close to it? Well those are my questions....and I know your solo album will be awesome, and be just as amazing as ever....Love Alex Archer...

Alex - Alex! What a brilliant name! ;) I can't recall your face, but I do remember signing the Korean Picture Book at that show. I'm glad you got a chance to see the last Calling concert…you made it just in time! It never gets old hearing that my music has helped people and I so appreciate you telling me that. So, unplanned changes and unexpected happenings on tour is a normal part of tour…the drama never ends! Honestly I just got use to it and would expect the unexpected, so that when it happened, I wouldn't be too shocked. We did plenty of things that weren't necessary, but at the time seemed to be the most important thing in the world. We also made plenty of bad choices and missed out on things I regret to this very day. But such is life. You learn from your mistakes. Ha! Have I ever fallen on stage? Well, I've come damn close to it! I've triped over wires, myself, and my mic stand plenty of times…but I always seem to catch myself. I'm sure I'll go down for real one of these days;) Thanks for your questions! All the love…

Luisa from Italy - Ciao Alex. How are you? Here's Luisa from Napoli (Italy). First man, you're a MUSIC GENIUS ! Your music is so amazing..no...perfect!! I always listen to Camino Palmero and Two for hours. My question could seem stupid but it's a thing that I always want to ask you :) You're a rockstar and you've got a lot of fans. You're the best for us...a role model. So all of us want to tell you a "thank you" for your music, for the emotions that you give to us and for all the consideration that you have for us. Does it annoy you? Do you think that they're just words?? Oh just one more question. Do you have your own songs on your I-pod? :) I can't wait to see you in Italy soon! Good look to you for the new album (It will be amazing *-*) and to Jen and Taryn for "Vanitas of California" *ç* . In your family they're all amazing person and I hope to see all them if I could! Thanks to our mom for this opportunity!!! Ciaoooooooooooo.Luisa

Alex - Ciaooooooo Luisa! I'm doing well, how are you? You think I'm a music genius now…but wait until you listen to my solo album…then you'll really think I'm a genius! Ha ha. I can't tell you how frustrating it is that this record is taking so long! I just want to be done and go on tour already! But alas, I don't run the whole show. It's definitely not annoying to hear that you love my music and I'm a role model for you! If anything, it gives me the confidence I need right about now to keep on going, no matter what stands in my way. They are just words, but they mean something much larger…I know, because I've felt the same way that you do about other artists that I love. I do have my own songs on my ipod of course! I have so many songs that Aaron and I wrote you've never heard and at least 40+ songs I've written in the last year for my solo album and for other artists. Wouldn't you just love to find my ipod randomly lying around some day! ;) I have a hard time listening to the last two Calling records these days...it brings back so many memories, both good and bad. It just makes me want to be out on tour and playing live again soooooo bad. Thanks for wishing me good luck! And I'll pass on the good luck to Jen and my sister for Vanitas…although they don't need it! They're clothing company is doing great! In fact, a huge chain of clothing stores here in America called "Anthropology" just ordered thousands of their dresses for their stores and their online site. You can see one of the dresses called "the light house dress" on Anthropology's website now! Thank you for your questions Luisa. All the love…

Joana from Brazil - Hi Alex, is really amazing this opportunity to write to you, thank you, and of course, thank you Debbie. As a fan, I have to say how the Calling song's are important to me. Could it be any harder has a special meaning in my life ;-) I'm brazilian, 23, singer and composer too. By these days I'm finalizing the recording of 4 songs of mine with some friends here. It's going pretty fun :-) Well, I'd like to know what did you do in the beginning, you know, if you feel frustrated some days and, what would you say to people that share this dream with you as they are starting out. Alex, thank you, you make part of my dream (and millions fans dreams) come true. This is why we love you so much. All love. Joana Araújo

Alex - Yes, thank you to Debbie! I don't know what I'd do without her! That's great news that you're recording your music…there's nothing more exciting than listening to one of your own songs and playing it for others. I miss Brazil as usual…you guys always made the time I spent there so much fun! I'm looking forward to coming back. I hate to break it to you, but the days you feel frustrated as an artist aren't just in the beginning…they never end. There's always a hurdle to climb, and just when you finally get over it, there's another one in your way. It's discouraging, but as long as you have faith in yourself, you just keep climbing over, no matter what it takes…I guess you get use to it. I love you guys so much too! Thanks for the questions and I'll be looking for you next time I'm in Brazil. All the love….

Scott from the UK - Hey Alex , how are you? I hope you're good . I hope your family is in good health too. I hope to catch one of your shows here in 06 , that would be so cool because ive never been to one before cos im only 14 :( I would like to ask your opinion on my project im doing with a couple of friends , we have started a band and im playing lead acoustic guitar , my other friend is vocalist , and my other friend is lead electric guitar , were looking for a drummer soon. What do you think of the idea of organizing and starting a band at an early age? Also, Do you think that fans like me who have never met you can still feel as if we have respect for you even though we dont know you. I just wanted you to know how much I respect you and what you do. One last question, when was the last time you visited Camino Palmero and do you visit there often? Good luck for the future. Scott

Alex - Hey Scott! I think there's nothing better than getting into music at your age. I had my first band around then and that ended up being time worth spent! Just know that if you really want to pursue it as a profession that it takes time, a whole lotta practice, and endless faith in yourself. I hope fans like you can have respect for me, even though you haven't met me personally. I've always tried to be true and as real as possible with you all…I'm not much different in person! I actually just bought a new house right by Camino Palmero and I drove up that street the other day. There's a show here in the US on HBO called "Entourage" that used to be shot in the crazy house I grew up in, so I can still visit it while I watch TV! I'm looking forward to coming back to your side of the world and performing again soon. All the best!

Alice from Italy - Hi Alex,I'm Alice from Italy (not from the Wonderland !!!),so..forgive my english! Most of all I want to thank you for the incredible emotions you give me with your songs and your voice ( how powerfull and sexy it is!) The last time you were at TRL Italy (do you remember... october 2004...?) you said that in the next CD it will be something special for the Italian fans (you said that 'cos in the Italian version of Two there were not included "For You" or "London Calling" ),so,...now with your new solo career, will you keep the promise? And why in a poster I've got do you wear a T- shirt with a picture of Charles Bronson on it, do you like his films or what else ? I look forward to listen to your new cd ........all the kisses , Alice

Alex - Ciao Alice! I remember that promise and I'm doing my best to see it through on this record. I recall wearing that shirt with Charles Bronson on it…I'm embarrassed to say that I'm not too familiar with his work…I just like the look of the shirt! I so long to come back to Italy and visit TRL soon. I hope to see you there. All the love…

Ivandra from Brazil - Hi, Alex... How are you doing? Well, my name is Ivandra and I'm from São Paulo. I'm the pregnant girl who asked you to sign her belly at the radio transamerica on October 2004. My twin sister and I met Pry when we were 8 years old and then we became best friends, but when we were 15 years old Pry moved and we distanced from each other. Two years later The Calling came out and we got together again due to your music. We listened to The Calling all the time and we became one of your biggest fans. We shared unforgettable moments and crazy experiences, for example, going to your concert when I was pregnant. The lyrics of your songs describe every phase of our lives, the good and the bad moments. Some of your songs touch us so deep that if feels like it was written specially for us. Thanks to your songs our friendship became solid, that's why I think the destiny put you in our way, just to get us together again. Today we are 20 years old and we can say that you are a part of our lives, our biggest dream is to meet you and take a picture. I'm sure it will happen one day, maybe next time you come to Brazil, if it won't happen it's ok, we're gonna wait the necessary time. Well, my question is: do you believe in destiny or do you think we make it on our own? And also we'd like to know if do you remember our gift (It was like a "little clone" of yours and it was made of wood) Did you like it? We just wanted to give you something different and then we decided to create the "little clone"! We made it all by ourselves! We wish you a lot of success on your new record, we can't wait to listen it! Kisses and all the love! Ivandra, Fernanda(my daughter) Izabele and Priscilla!

Alex - Hey guys! I could never forget the pregnant girl I met in Brazil! I signed your belly! And the Alex clone was genius! It's one of those gifts that is forever embedded in my memory:) When I see you next time I'm in Brazil, I'll make sure our picture together gets taken…no matter what! I do believe in destiny. I think every person is put on this planet to do something in particular and the people that are lucky enough to know what that is and follow it through, succeed. It kind of contradicts the idea of destiny to say that you can make it on your own…so I don't know if that's possible. Thank you guys again for your support through all these years…it makes me so happy to know I had a hand in bringing you together. All the love…

From Debbie - If you want to see the cute pictures of Ivy's baby and her signed belly as well as the Alex Clone Click ~~ Brazil Pictures ~~

Molly from the USA - Hey Alex this is Molly from the good old US of A. You won't remember me because alas I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you, but I'm almost (you can never be too sure) positive that you'll remember the show that I saw TC at. Think back to September 2004 Pontiac Michigan. Ring any bells? Yep the place where you got lost in a parking garage for a while with a clueless security guard asking you if you wanted a peanut. Anyway being the fan that I am I do know a bit about you, or at least the information that you release to your adoring public, and I had a question. Being a performer is basically a synonym for rejection. You are lucky enough to have gotten past that stage in a performers life, but I do know that at one time you and Aaron were faced with rejection. I am currently preparing my self for auditions into various colleges and universities Drama and Theater programs and I was wondering if you had any advice for people facing rejection. Do you have any ways to prepare yourself for it, or if it does come any advice for accepting it? Thanks bunches-Peace, Love, and Music-Molly

Alex - Molly:) Yep, I definitely remember that show! Getting lost in that parking garage sucked! And that frikkin guy asking me if I wanted a peanut! He was no help:) Hmmm, rejection…yep that does go hand in hand with the art world. I can't say there's really a way to prepare yourself for it or accept it any easier…all I can say is what I've said many times before; You've gotta believe in yourself and your talent. Know that although one person may have one negative opinion on what you're doing, there's probably ten more that will love you. Art is a very selective thing. I guess we all strive to get the most people possible liking what we do. If you find yourself continually reaching dead ends with your feedback, then you might have to change what you're doing if you want to win. Success in this field of work relies heavily on compromise. You have to be ready to alter your art to please the masses if you want to make a living off it. But, you never know…what really comes truly from the heart on the first try could do just that. Thanks for the question and I'm sure we'll be meeting some day soon. All the love….

February 28, 2006

Cheryl from Virginia - Hi Alex! I'm one of your "older" fans (48)! I live in Virginia, and I hope to see you in concert this year. I've never seen you perform live, and I want 2006 to be the year. My question is about the troops in Iraq. I was wondering if you would consider going there to entertain them? I read an article that said they're having trouble finding entertainers. It could generate lifelong fans, and be be very meaningful to them and you. Even if you don't support the war, the troops could use some love and support! And what a great story to tell future grandchildren! :)

Alex - Hey Cheryl! You realize you're not old right? And you aren't my oldest fan either…maybe higher on the "fan-age-spectrum", but not the oldest! Anyway, to answer your question, yes, I would definitely go to play for the troops if it was a possibility…but I've never been asked. Probably because I'm not quite the thing the people in charge are looking for to entertain the troops…maybe Jessica Simpson or Nickel Back…but me? Maybe I'd give them a good laugh. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. I don't support the war, but I would be happy to do whatever I can to support the people risking their lives for our Country...it seems like they're going to be there for quite a while, so maybe I'll get the chance. Well, I'm hoping to play for YOU at least in concert later this year! I've worked up some insane music and I can't wait to share it with everyone…and who knows, maybe even the troops…if they'll have me:)

Marina from Austria - Hi Alex! At first I wanted to ask you if you have ever been to Austria!? I know that you had a concert in Vienna, but i want to know, if you have been really in Austria once, not just at the airport. So here is my real question for you: is it hard to stay down to earth, when you know that so many people love you and your music? I mean is it hard to remember who you are, when you make so many people happy with your music every day? Then I`ve got another question for you: do you have one of your songs, you like best? Thank you bye Marina

Alex - Marina:) How are you? I have been to Vienna before and I saw much more than just the airport and the gig! I had a whole day off to walk through the city, go to museums, see the churches, shop…it was awesome. I remember that gig well, we played in the weirdest little club ever, right by the river, it was wild. So, to answer your real question, I would have to say it is very easy for me to stay down to earth. Even with the amazing career I've had so far…you don't just walk around as the king of the world. There's a constant reminder in every day you live that lets you know YOU ARE NO BETTER than anyone else. If anything, knowing I make so many people happy with my music is a very humbling thing. And to answer your last question, my favorite song I've ever written is one no one has heard yet…but you will soon;)

Mariana, Erica and Tanise, from Brazil - Hey Alex! how are you?! We are Mariana, Erica and Tanise, from Brazil. We met each other on the net because of you and now we're almost a family. Thank you, Alex ;) our questions are: do you believe in mystic things, meaning of dreams, those things? are you used to dreaming about past concerts, fans that you've met? do you usually have weird dreams or dreams about things of your day by day? and have you ever had premonitory dreams? Thanks Debbie for the opportunity and thanks Alex for answering our questions. see you soon in Brazil ;)

Alex - Mariana, Erica and Tanise! I'm so glad I helped you guys all meet and come together. I hope you all have a life long friendship! Now, do I believe in mystic things? Definitely. I also believe in dreams having deeper meaning and potentially also being foretelling of the future. I dream like crazy all the time…about all you guys, playing shows, traveling the world, experiences I've had, and ones I'm going to have. I also dream very dark things a lot, mostly the same kind of dream over and over. Like end-of-the-world type things where I'm the one who has to save everyone! Or I'm back in High School and failing miserably! But, I would have to say the one dream I've had almost every night for my entire life is of me flying. And I don't mean in a helicopter! I mean like just floating up and flying freely anywhere I choose. In my flying dreams I'm always with a group of people in some normal circumstance, when I say to them "Hey, watch this guys!" And then, all the sudden, I start flying and they completely start freaking out! So what does that mean? Anyway, thank you guys for the questions and I can't wait to make my way back to Brazil. All the love…

Maren from Germany - How much do you acknowledge(realize) the fact that your music and appearance can have such an impact on some fans' lives, e.g. that we've met friends (maybe even for a lifetime), even lovers sometimes and build such a community? does it make you even prouder of what you're doing to know that? My other question is if guitars hadn't been build which other instrument would you probably have played?

Alex - Hallo Maren in Germany! I hope you're doing well. So, let's see…do I realize what it is I've done to you all with my music? YES! And it's the greatest feeling in the world. It's why I do this and why I'll never stop doing it. I'm so proud it's beyond words. I have to put the feeling into music and that's exactly what I've been doing! Oh, and to answer your other question, if the guitar would have never been invented, I would be waaaaay better at piano, that's for sure! That's definitely the instrument I would have focused on and I am actually focusing on now anyway. All the love to you and I'll see you in Germany!

January 29, 2006

Ira from Russia - Hello Alex! My name's Ira. And I'm your big fan from Russia. My questions are: Yesterday my grandmother died... It wasn't a shock for all our family, cause she was very ill, but you never be ready for that news, you know... She was only 68... And always it changes something inside me, and things are not the same. And someday (I hope it will be after many-many years) will be only me and my brother. We quarrel often and sometimes I really hate him. But in the end he will be a memory about my parents and grandparents. The one memory... My first question is: Are there good relations between you and your brothers and sister? Are you connecting with your little step-brothers and sister? It's very important for all of you. My second question is: What is that person who know you better than others, maybe better than you know yourself? And with whom you can talk about absolutely anything? Who can take a part of your pain and make it less, and make your happiness twice bigger? I need now a person like this... That's all my questions. Big health to you and all your family

Alex - Hey Ira:) I'm really sorry to hear about your Grandmother. I know exactly how you feel. It is important to keep close relationships with your family and I make sure to do it as if they could all be gone tomorrow. My half-Brothers here in LA and I are very close since we grew up together. And now that my Sister and Jennifer are running a clothing company together, I've become closer to my Sister, Taryn. I try to see my Brothers in Germany as much as possible, but it's pretty difficult! I don't know them very well, but they are great kids! I've pretty much learned that no matter how #$^%& up your family is or how crazy they can make you, you still love them and it's really important to stay close. The person in my life who meets all the things you described would have to be Jennifer, my wife. No one knows me better than her, I can talk to her about everything, and she helps me through all my problems and makes me happy everyday. Really the only other person I can think of in my life who can do all that is you guys! Sometimes all you fans know more about myself than I do! You make me so happy and take away my pain. And I do tell you pretty much everything! I hope to make it someday soon to Russia…I've still never been. All the love!

Debbie - USA - The only criticism I ever heard repeated concerning your album "TWO" was that people felt it was too "produced" or polished. I, of course, think it was brilliant ;) However, enough people have mentioned it that I would like your opinion. My husband says it really can't be too produced and that a great sounding album is never a bad thing. However, I do sometimes love the rawness of a demo song and the emotion captured. Do you think you will approach your new album any differently than you did "Two", or were you completely happy with that entire process. When Jimmy Eat World released their last CD, they actually included two versions for the first so many albums sold (at a slightly higher price). One CD was all their pure demo recordings and the other CD was the polished up studio version. It seemed to satisfy both types of fans and I wonder what your thoughts are on that.

I'm also wondering if you could comment a bit on the new song you gave us, Last Goodbye. To me it speaks of the struggle you were going through deciding how to proceed with your career and how you would feel if you couldn't do what you love to do any longer. I'm sure the fans would rather hear your take on it than mine though ;) Also, who is playing on the track? I know Daniel produced it but he is also playing Piano or is that you?

Alex - Hey you! Good point. It's a hard balance to make a CD amazing, but not too overly produced. Jimmy Eat World solved that in one odd way, which I think is interesting…but I think it comes down to the heart and soul of a record. I think a truly genius record is recorded in the right way, with the right vibes, at the right time and the right songs. Although I love "TWO", I definitely don't think it met all those demands. But, it's still a great record and I'm very proud of it. I'm into the "raw" thing like you are, but I also like crazy @#%$ too! So…hopefully I'm finding the happy medium as I'm recording now. I think I am…but you'll just have to wait and see! Regarding "Last Goodbye"…you hit the nail right on the head with the meaning…it's a very important song to me. I did play the piano on that track and Arm's and I produced it together. There's gonna be a lot of piano on this record, so be ready to see me on stage behind one! I'm excited, can you tell? :) All the love…

Scott from The UK - Hello I'm an 18 year old student from England. I hate to sound depressing and you've probably heard it a million times but your music has really helped me. I've had insecurity issues for as long as I can remember and I was devastated earlier in 2005 when I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. I felt so imperfect and I blamed myself for everything. In my eyes I deserved all of it. However I managed to battle it and feel better than ever and I owe it to you and your music. It has an uplifting quality to it and really made me see how much I should value what I have and I am truly grateful. I just want to know one thing, have you ever been faced with a devastating situation that you have had to overcome and how did you overcome it? I know it was my passion for surfing and your music that me through my struggle and I owe you a lot, thank you - Scott

Alex - Scott, don't blame yourself! That's like the most common cancer there is in men…trust me, I'm freaked out that I have it all the time! Good for you for getting through it though…you should be really proud of yourself, you're a lot stronger than you think. I'm flattered that my music helped in some way…thank you for listening to it on that level…that's why I write it! I have been through a number of devastating situations in my life too…my parents divorcing, my Mom leaving me and moving to Germany, I had my own major health scare and battle with something awful when I was young, and someone extremely close to me recently found out they need a transplant and are living with what the doctors call. "A ticking time bomb!"…not very comforting;) Anyway, I'm sure there's tons of people that have it worse than me and some that don't, but it's all relative. Anyway, the one and only thing that got me through all those times and many others I can't even list…is music and love. It sounds cheesy, but when you're that down, it's amazing how the small things in life you take for granted become so much more important. Keep surfing…it's a great way to let go and an awesome sport (I wish I could do it!). I wish you all the best with your continued good health and happiness!

Liane from Germany - Hi Alex! I can't believe that I have the chance to ask you a question or maybe more ;) How are you and your family? Then I have to thank you Alex for your music. It helped me through a very difficult time but now it's getting better and better :) Ok here are my questions. Do you like video games? If yes, which ones? I like them and sometimes I play for hours. Then this Christmas I get the DVD "The Calling live in Italy" I love it. After watching it I wonder if you think of something or somebody when you are singing? And one last question, do you come to Germany again? Maybe on your tour? Because I can't wait to see you on stage. OK that was it ;) thanks for answering my questions and I wish you all the best I can for your solo album. *hugs* to you. Liane from Germany. PS.: In my school there's a boy who looks like you, not exactly but nearly ;) ok, bye then.

Alex - Hello Liane! My family and I are doing great at the moment…some better than others, but overall, great. Thank you for listening to my music and I'm glad to hear times are getting better for you. So, do I like video games? Oh yah…I mean, I'm not a crazy fanatic, but I do own every video game system that exists;) Jennifer's Mom got me Xbox 360 for Christmas, so I've been playing that a lot, especially a racing game called "Project Gotham Racing". I also like the new Playstation Portable system…I take it to the studio with me and when I get a free second here and there…I'll play Tiger Wood's Golf! Hey, what can I say, I love golf! So, who or what do I think of when I'm singing? Honestly, I don't think of anything. It's kind of like a Euphoric moment when your head is clear…almost like you're on drugs…but without doing anything illegal or stupid! But, other times when I'm on stage I'll think about random things like, "don't trip there"…or "hey check out that chick, she's hot"…or "man I'm never gonna hit this note coming up, my voice is destroyed!" To answer your last question…of course I'm coming to Germany again! I hope I get over there later this year, but I don't know when exactly…it depends on the touring schedule of the next record. I'm looking forward to seeing you in the crowd from on stage! Hugs to you too and all the love!

December 28, 2005

Lu from The UK - Alex, i met you at the Hammersmith gig in london and to end what had been an amazing night you said the silver pendant of the 2 album cover i gave you was awesome, i hope it survived the rest of the tour. My question to you is regarding your tour diaries, they really open up your world to us and are so funny i have tears in my eyes reading them - i'm sure if you wasnt a musician you could be a comedy script writer. What made you start writing them, how on earth do you find the time to get the information down with your busy work schedule, do you write bits as you go along or do you just have a very good memory. Thank you so much for answering my question and i'm looking forward to reading more of your excellent adventures (no bogus journeys allowed) xxxx Lu

Alex - Hello hello Lu! I do still have that "Two" silver pendant you made me! I remember the exact moment when I received it…Such a unique gift! I don't wear it in fear that I might lose it, but I do keep it in a safe place. Trust me, I'm looking forward to writing tour diaries again as much as you're looking forward to reading them. I get a kick out of jotting all my thoughts down at the end of a tour, recapping all the funny and outrageous moments. It helps me remember all the great times I've had. Once in a while I'll read some of them and it makes me long to be out on the road again. Man. I'm looking forward to next year! All the love…

Anaelle from Reunion Island - Hello Alex! This is Anaëlle, yeah, "that girl from Reunion Island", remember? :) I hope you are doing well. I read in an interview a long time ago that you had an iPod and I was wondering about the playlist. What singers/bands are you listening to those latest weeks? What songs and artists get the most play on your playlist? I totally LOVE "The Truth"! This song is awesome! The style is quite different from the other songs you released in the past. Even if that song will not be on the new record, will the record be as catchy as it is? I mean the rhythm, your voice (which is absolutely gorgeous), the same "style". I'll do my best to see you on the road again next year, as I did in October 2004. Thank you SO much for that HUGE hug you gave me that day *hug again* ;) I hope you enjoyed the book I gave you backstage, "Gift From Reunion Island". All the love from Reunion Island :) and TONS OF HUGS" Anaëlle

Alex - Anaëlle from Reunion Island! I remember our meeting in Paris a while back…I can't believe how far you traveled to see me! I know we'll meet again soon:) So, my ipod…let's see…it's hard to say what's on it…pretty much everything. Maybe 6000 songs!? Recently I've really been into an artist named "Imogen Heap", she was in a band called "Frou Frou". I love, love, love her record and I can't stop listening to it. I'm like that with pretty much everything…a new pair of pants or jacket, a favorite food, and music…I'll wear or eat or listen to the same thing a million times then burn out on it and never revisit it again. There are some older records on my ipod that I'll always go back to and listen again, like Led Zeppelin, or The Beatles, etc. I'm glad you liked "The Truth". Although that song probably won't make the record, its elements are similar to the songs that will. Thank you for the questions and for that book you gave me the day we met, I did enjoy it! All the love…

Susan from Tennessee - Hi Alex! How're are you? I really hope your ok and that your solo album is doing perfectly! We're totally looking forward to see you up here when you start your tour! Anyway... I'm a big movies fan and I want to make a career out of it, I haven't really decided what I want to be, but I know it's something related to it and I was wondering what's your favorite movie, your favorite actor and which soundtrack you think is the best ever ( leaving aside Sweet home Alabama :) ) Well, gotta go. The best of luck with you album! Take care BYE

Alex - Hey Susan! I love Tennesse! I'm looking forward to going back there on tour next year…good food and sweet people. My solo album isn't out yet, but I hope it does perfectly when it is out! So, to answer your questions: My favorite movie…hmmm…there's a bunch…Edward Scissor Hands, Indiana Jones, The Matrix, Back To The Future. My favorite actor? Harrison Ford is up there among others. The best soundtrack I've ever bought was the "City of Angels" with The Goo Goo Dolls song "Iris", some Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette to name a few. Good luck with your career in the movie biz…it's a long and hard road to the top, but once your there, there's nothing like it! I wish you all the best and hope to see you next year on tour. All the love…

Marieli from Brazil - It´s such a pleasure to talk to you, Alex! At least, I´ll be sure that something written by me will reach your hands (And I should thank Debbie for that). My name is Marieli (aka Isteicy), I live in Brazil (São Paulo). In the October 18th 2004 concert, my friends and I threw to you on the stage a Brazilian flag, with the "Two" album logo, and written "The Calling" on it. And then you appeared holding it, and made everybody feel emotioned and ecstatic. Thank you for that moment! You lifted up our award. The flag story is really long, so I´m not supposed to write about it here, but at least I´d like you to know that it was idealized and made by friends and I. Alex, I can´t live forever without being aware of the existence of this flag. Please, tell me, do you still have it? I also want to know if the DVD (which everybody is looking forward to seeing) with some scenes in Brazil is in your plans. Is there any possibility of seing Aaron playing with you on stage again? I´d like to say congratulations for your contract with A&M, it´s fantastic seeing you joining Ron Fair again. That will bring us a great result for sure. Guy, if you reply my "calling", that will be the best Christmas gift I´ve ever gotten for the last 20 years. =) Wish you, Jennifer and your whole family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Peace + Faith + Success!!! With love. Isteicy

Alex - Hey Isteicy! Of course I remember that flag! And I definitely still have it; along with all the other gifts I got during my tours through Brazil. That flag was one of the coolest gifts! I do have video of that night's show, but as of now, I don't know what will be on the DVD and whether or not we can even make a DVD yet…but I'm trying! Happy Holidays to you too and I'll see you next year in Brazil! All the love…

NOVEMBER 27, 2005

Aimee from The UK - Hiya Alex, its Aimee here from sunny but breezy England. Heres my question (thanks to debbie :D) - in the future would you ever consider having your own record label - one that signs proper bands, like TC, who have great music but might not have a chance on their own? Like guiding new bands, giving them the best advice, seeing as you've had alot of experience with labels, sometimes good and bad and you know that that side of the music business can get complicated. Anyway, cant wait to hear your solo music and to see you in the UK. Wishing you all the best. Aimee xx

Alex - Aimee in sunny but breezy England! How are you? You know, I have thought about the idea of one day having my own record label…but these days it's close to impossible to actually make any money doing it. Maybe years from now once the music biz gets a little better and the online music buying scene becomes more of a larger market place, I'll try my luck. Then it will be easier and more lucrative for people like me to find bands and get them heard. Thanks for the question and I'll see you next year in the UK! All the love…

Stef & Sarah from Germany - Heya Alex! How are you? We hope that everything is fine with you and your work. We can't wait to hear some new songs of you and we really hope that you'll finish it soon and we'll see you on tour next year! Here are our questions. First of all, because Halloween is near we would like to know what you think of it. Do you like it? Did you dress up and do all that crazy stuff like "trick or treat" in the past? And do you still celebrate it? If you have celebrated it in the past, what have you done with all of the candy? And the most important question...do you actually like candy if yes, which one is your favorite? The next question has nothing to do with the one above...it's something we thought about for a long time. You wrote so many songs about love and about shattered love...and we know that you're married and thats why we would like to know what true love is for you. How do you define true love? How do you know that you're in love and this is the one? Is it just because you always have to think of her? Or how do you realize true love? Thanks for taking the time to read our questions and answer them! All the best for you, your family and of course your record! All da frikkin love ;) Stef and Sarah from Germany :)

Alex - Hey guys! I do love Halloween and candy! I usually dress up and go to parties, but this year I just worked all night! Regarding your other question, I have written many songs about love and loss, cause I have experienced both many times as most of us have. Now I have found true love and come to realize what it really is…It's waking up each day and loving the person even more. Finding little things about them as the years pass that make you appreciate them even more…love them even more than you thought was possible. You would do anything for them. I feel like it's impossible to know whether you're in love or just in lust during the first year of being together…everything is different when you are first dating and you're clouded by the rush you get each time you're together. That initial rush fades, but something else deeper comes in. As time passes and you live together and share everything together, you only know then if you're truly in love…when you miss them for the few moments they walk out the door to get the mail! It's hard to explain, but I really think you become like one person. Thank you guys for the questions and "all da frikkin love" to you!

Or from Israel - Hey Alex! how are you and your family? hope you're all doing great :) I'm Or, your biggest fan from Israel. ;) first of all, I just wanted to say that you and your music have done a huge different in my life (for the better of course), so THANK YOU for that. Can't believe I actually have the chance to send you a question, so a millions thanks to you and Debbie for letting me have that. Anyways, my question is: I was just watching a video of the NRJ awards in france, and I noticed you were up against U2. Knowing that you are a huge fan, makes me wonder- how was it like to win over a band you like and appreciate that much, and did you thought you really deserved to win? (of course I do, for me you'll win over anybody, even U2 ;)) and plus, being a huge Bon Jovi fan myself, I just wanted to know- what is your favorite Bon Jovi song? thanks again for reading and answering my questions! good luck with the new album and the solo career, I'm sure it'll be fantastic and I can't wait for that :) much love, Or, Israel

Alex - Hey You :) My family is doing great…I'm actually with them right now here in Florida for Thanksgiving week and having an awesome time. Thank you for the sweet words and I'm glad I get the chance to answer your questions! I do remember winning over U2 and I felt very strange! I also remember when "Wherever You Will Go" was number one in America for 28 weeks in a row and U2's "Stuck In A Moment" couldn't get past it! Very weird for me, being such a huge, huge fan. It was an honor. I am also a big Bon Jovi fan and when I met him years back and he said he loved our record, I cried! It was funny. My favorite song of his is probably "Always" and the band's "I'll Be There For You". Thanks for the questions and I really hope I get the chance to come to Israel for many different reasons…including meeting you! All the love…

Kristi from The US - Hey Alex, my name's Kristi (Savemeimdtba on the Loft). I've met you a few times, been to a few shows, I won your WYWG jacket a few years back, I remember when you used to come on the Loft every night and answer our questions (ah, the good ol' days!) - so i've been around for a while. I was wondering if back when all this started happening did you ever dream you'd be where you are now? I know as a fan I never imagined some of the changes TC has gone through, I was wondering how it's been for you? Is it shocking or are you right where you thought you'd be? Lot's of love, and forever a fan, Kristi, Augusta, GA

Alex - Hi Kristi! How is my jacket doing? ;) Next year when things get moving again I'll be back up there on the my new Loft answering questions again all the time…promise! So…let's see, did I ever think I'd be where I am now? Not really! Although I've had great success, it's come at a price and there have been many downfalls along the way as we all know. But nothing good comes easy, that's for sure. I did think one day I'd venture out on my own, but I never thought it would be this soon. It's hard for everyone else to understand just what crazy things go on behind the scenes in this business and just how much it takes for it to work well. All the wheels have to be turning at the right time in the right way with the right funding and the right people…oh yah, and the right song! Needless to say, considering all that has happened, I am extremely fortunate to be where I am and I'm very excited about the future. This next step could either be the end of my career or just the beginning…I'm really hoping it's the latter! All the love…

OCTOBER 28, 2005

Luiza from Brazil - Hey, Mr. Band, how are you? I'm so glad to have the chance to talk to you...It's wonderful!...thanks, Debbie :) I have to say all that things that you already know...It's gorgeous what you and the guys have done for music all around the world...your songs bring love to all hearts, and love is what the world needs now. And, I'm from Brazil, so I have to say that Brazil loves TC and hopes to see you soon. Another thing that is great from you is that you are always getting in touch with your fans...Congratulations... Now, I have some questions to do...Here we go... When you were in Brazil, did you go to some tourist places like Corcovado or Pão de Açúcar (both in Rio)? If not, you have to go there someday and come to my tourist home town - Angra dos Reis that has 365 islands and 200 beaches and is just 2 hours from Rio :) Do you know something about Brazilian music? What do you think about it? (Brazil IS NOT just samba and carnival) Are you that Alexander Band in orkut? I really wanna know cause...if not...it's false! Finally, until now I don't know you, but I really wanna meet you...for this...YOU HAVE TO COME TO BRAZIL SOON !...:) All the love, Luiza Santos

Alex - Hey there Luiza! I am so fond of Brazil and I’m really missing it these days…I can’t wait until I go back next year. I did get to visit Corcovado when I was there and the view was amazing! I would like to get more time off when I go next to see other sites…but that is hard to do! Your hometown sounds nuts…365 islands! That’s one for each day of the year! I’m still very bad with Brazilian music, some Brazilian fans gave me a few of the local rock band’s CD’s when I was there that I heard, but I need to listen more. I don’t know what “orkut” even is, so I am definitely not the Alexander Band you are talking about! Be careful of people pretending to be me. I would never go on a message board and talk to fans cause it’s too confusing, so don’t be fooled! Obrigado and all the love…

Vania from Mexico - Hi: My name is Vania and I live in Mexico City and I am 15. . First how are you your family? I would like to know what it is the most exiting thing that comes with the fame? And how did you decide to go solo? How doe you feel with that? I hope you will come to Mexico soon.

Alex - All right! A Mexican fan! I never hear from fans in Mexico! I really enjoyed my time there when we were on tour for our first record. I’d like to go back some day. Thanks for the questions! My family is doing well, or as well as it can be doing considering it’s all split up and spread across the world! I have a very typical “Hollywood” family…that is for sure! So, let’s see…the most exciting thing that comes with fame? Hmmm…I guess the strange feeling that people know who you are all over the world…even places you’ve never been and probably will never go. It’s a very odd thing! In regards to my music, the most exciting thing about being famous is getting to travel the world, play shows, and meet all the fans. I decided to go solo because it seemed like the logical next step for me and I wanted to try things with me running the show. Less confusion;) The deeper I get into making my solo record now, the more and more excited I get to play it for all of you. It’s going to be crazy! I’m sure I’ll be going back to Mexico next year at some point on tour, so keep your eyes out for me! All the love…

Sophie from The UK - Hey Alex, hope you're keeping well at home, while the rest of the world awaits the wonder that will be your new record. Ooo how exciting for you, you're getting a question from a co-queen of the Loft. (From Debbie - Sophie can be a bit delusional , but we'll play along ;) Therefore, get ready for possibly the best question you'll ever answer in your life (or, you know, not). When you're on the road, with so many different faces in every city in every country, do you ever think about who's there just for the show, and who's there that has been on the Loft for years and years. You know, those fans who as you said in the CD cover "have taken it to the next level". Do you even get time to visit the Loft and do you ever read the Loft and go 'aaah, that's who I met the other week' or 'my God do you HAVE a life outside the Loft?' etc? Can't wait to see you back out in England again, obviously my student loan will be put to good use hopping from show to show. Take care, Love, Sophie xxx

Alex - Sophie! Good question. And it is extremely exciting to be getting a question from you;) Yes, I read The loft all the time, although these days I’m too busy working on my record and I know a lot of people have been laying low for the time being so there isn’t much gossip going on there right now. When I play shows, the Lofters in the crowd usually point themselves out with a sign or a scream, so most of the time I don’t have to wonder! Sometimes I’ll have read certain posts or comments from fans on the loft, and then meet them for the first time in person and that’s always weird. I haven’t asked whether someone has a life or not outside the loft cause I would just be demeaning myself since I probably read it more than anyone else! I’ll be looking forward to seeing you next year on tour in the UK…and keep that student loan intact, cause you’ll be needing it to go many places following me! I’ll be able to go to even more stops this time since I’ll be in charge…yay! All the love…

From Debbie - Since you just got back from doing those 3 shows on your Dad's crazy little road trip , can you walk us through what that was all like? You know a little mini tour diary here because you know how we all love reading those :) Also, I read on your dad's website that someone video-taped the entire show in Dallas. What are the chances you will put up those videos either on your official site or maybe another website dedicated to you that would really, really love to get them out to your fans...hint....hint..... :) Especially for the "Why Don't You and I" performance acoustically, we'd love to see that.

Alex - Those three days were very, very strange! It was like I was back on tour, but not really. The traveling was there and the clubs and the crappy hotels and a few great fans were there...but going on stage for only 3 songs sucked! And being a small part of the weirdest on stage show ever was wild. My Dad is completely out of his mind…like no, truly. It was fun doing it all with my him though, except he was super busy most of the time with press and I was working via the internet in my hotel rooms with writers back home, so…. Since it wasn’t a true tour in any way, and it’s focus wasn’t my music, I didn’t feel writing a tour diary made sense, as much as I love to write them! In response to the filming of the Dallas show, it’s true, it was filmed and should be one funny ass video when it’s done. Unfortunately, it’s all my Dad’s thing and it’s for a DVD he is going to be putting out soon, so I don’t think I can get the footage to give to everyone…but I’ll try! The only thing else I can really say about the super mini tour was that even though it was odd circumstances, it was still fun to get back on the road for a bit and play on stage and see some really great fans…a few who I had never had the pleasure of meeting before. It all just made me more amped up to record this freekin record already and put it out! I’m going as fast as I can though. All the love…

SEPTEMBER 28, 2005

Clare from the UK - Hi Alex, I met you last year at the Shepherd's Bush show, meet and greet, it was a very special day for me :) Thank You ! & *HUGS* and also i waited for you outside Hammersmith Apollo London last November, you signed my banner because I had done all the UK shows with you. My Question is knowing that your favourite band is U2, did you get chance to see them on the Vertigo Tour ? I am a huge U2 fan myself and love to hear you sing U2 songs ( which really rock) !!! Do you have a favourite song off their new cd ? and also have you ever met Bono ? I wish you all the success with your solo career and hope you can come back to the UK soon :) Take Care, Love Always Clare xxx

Alex - Hey Clare! I definitely remember you…Hammersmith was a great night! Unfortunately, I’ve never had the chance to meet Bono, but it’s on the top of my list! My favorite song off their new record is “Miracle Drug”. It’s reminiscent of 80’s U2, which is my favorite. I know someday I’ll meet him and probably be speechless when I do! Thanks for the questions. All the love…

Agnes from Denmark - Hey Alex!!! how are you???hope you're not too busy to actually do this.. recording and all. I'm so amazed that you take the time to ask q's from your fans...!!!! The question:(drum roll please...) what is the best, the worst, the scariest and the most ridiculous thing you've ever experienced in your life... (not nessasaryly on tour).... send my love to all your family.. Jen and Aaron.. and the rest of the guys too..you'll make it!!! don't worry :)))) Love Agnes...

Alex - Let’s see…there’s been a lot of each experiences your asking about and to sum them each up would be difficult, but I’ll give it a go. The best experience would probably be getting married…right along with that show at the Hammersmith now that I think about it. That was one of the most insane show we’ve ever played…6,000 of our own fans screaming their way through an hour and a half of rock! It was awesome. OK, the worst thing? That’s still got to be when I sang the National Anthem and got booed at by 25,000 Hockey fans…yah, that sucked. Now, the scariest thing…hmmm…probably when someone very, very close to me was really sick and in the hospital earlier this year. They were so close to dying and I was scared for so many reasons. Luckily it all turned around at the last minute. And finally, the most ridiculous thing? Man, there’s been a whole lot of those in the last four years! Honestly, it would probably have to be when Aaron decided for the second time to bow out of the touring/visual side of The Calling the day our second record came out…also known as my Birthday. I found that ridiculous at the time and I still do in ways. I love Aaron, but he’s one complicated dude! Anyway, thanks for the questions Agnes and all the love to you…

Nature from Canada - Hey Alex! How are you? It's Nature (from Toronto, Canada - just in case you know of any others with my name.lol). First off I must tell you, once again, what an incredible time I had at the shows in June. It was so great to be able to meet you! Thanks for being so sweet to me.
It is interesting, and at times disheartening, to see the differences in how people (kids, teens, adults) deal with extremely difficult, sometimes tragic situations; some become bitter and angry, some turn to drugs and alcohol, and some end up being fairly well adjusted and able to cope and lead healthy productive lives. As someone who, in my opinion, is an excellent example of the latter, my question(s) for you is/are, was there someone/something, besides music, in your life, when you were growing up, that helped you cope with the difficult times? If yes, and you don't mind sharing, what was it? If no, how/when did you discover that writing music was a good outlet? What advice would you give to kids (or anyone else), who may be going through some of the things you went through, about how to get through those times? Thank-you for taking the time to read and answer my question(s). I am so looking forward to the new album and seeing you on tour next year! Much love, Nature

Alex - Hey Nature! I definitely don’t know anyone else with your name, so you must be the same Nature that I’ve heard from before! Thanks for the good questions. It is a mystery to me how I ended up so grounded after a completely insane upbringing. I guess I owe it to my music, which I started playing when I was 8…right when my Mother left me and moved to Germany. Music was always my one and only outlet, and without that I probably would be in jail…no shit. The other most important thing I always had though, that glued the broken pieces together, was love. Even though my family was a mess and I was a mess, I was always loved, especially from my wacky Father. He wasn’t around much when I was growing up, but when he was, he was the most loving supportive person in my life and I owe who I am today to him….the good and the bad. It’s hard to give advice to people who are going through what I went through…cause everyone’s life is so different….some worse, some better. I guess in my experience, all I can say is if you don’t have a passion…something that gets you out of bed each day…find it. Everyone’s got one, some just don’t know it yet. I don’t care if it’s as simple as a TV show you love to watch that comes on each week…it gets you up in the morning and gives you something to look forward to. I know from experience that it’s worth getting through the crap, even if I t seems hopeless, because one day you’re guaranteed to be in a better spot, look back on now, and be happy you made it. Also, if you’re not in a situation where you’re being loved in a supportive way, or any way at all, then find it as well! Without sounding too cheesy, loving someone and being loved in return is just as important and substantial of a thing to get you through hard times as having an outlet or a passion. Being in love is the most powerful thing a person can feel. OK, I’ve rambled enough! Thanks again for the questions Nature. All the love…

Agnes from Germany - Guten Tag Alex ;) I just came back from my honeymoon and my hubby and I had some long talks there about how much influence happy and sad moments have in a life so it came to my mind to ask you which moments make you write a song more often - the sad or happy ones? Since you also got married last year and I suppose it was one of the most memorable moments in your life... did the event of getting married and all the memories around it ever influence you to just sit down and write a song? Most of the song meanings you told us about in the past questions are from rather negative experience and I was wondering if there were any happy moments like your marriage that made you write a song (maybe even one for your next album)?? Speaking of the new album, I wish you lots of luck for it, I'm sure it will be awesome! Can't wait to hear it and to see which song will make it as a first single. I hope to meet you really soon again in Germany! Hugs, Agnes

Alex - Hello Agnes! Germany rocks! I’m looking forward to coming back next year. My biggest inspiration does come from negative experiences. I find I write the best and deepest songs when I’m totally bummed out! Usually when I have a great experience I end up just savoring the moment…putting it down in a song doesn’t really work for me for some reason. I mean, there are times when I go to an amazing concert and immediately am inspired to write a kick ass song when I get home, but it’s rare. Since I’ve been writing like crazy the last 9 months, and it’s the best material I’ve ever written, then I guess you could say I’ve been pretty bummed out! Not entirely, I’ve been having a good time…but just like everybody else, you can’t have the good without the bad, and I have plenty of bad….makes for good songs though! Thank you for the questions. All the love…

AUGUST 28, 2005

Hollie from the UK: - I was at the hammersmith show on Nov 1st 04, was my 1st at a tc show and it totally rocked! I've written to you before, in the wish book in august 04 and in your birthday book for this year...so hopefully you know who the hell i am! One other thing...i chucked some doublemint gum at you, nov 1st...im sure you said something about the gum,but i wasn't sure so did you get it, oh and did you see my banner that i held up...it had a black kokepelli on it and had TC going all around the side, Ok, here are my questions - Do you prefer to write about personal things more, or about stuff that just pops into your head, say like dreaming in red? (you said it was about nothing at the show, but was good!) I was also wondering have you ever thought about writing a book, like an autobiography, or any other kind? You are great at writing, the tour diaries that you write really do crack me up...you are sooooo funny, it's unreal! Last, When you are down, do you have anything that gets you back to your normal self? say like music, things to do, as when im really down and angry, or something, i listen to your music, it really helps and calms me down! i hope you are well and i can't wait to hear the new music! Hopefully I'll get to see you on tour next year, and i really hope I get to meet you, my idol someday! love hollie xxx UK fan xxx

Alex - Hey Hollie! I think I remember your poster…I definitely remember the gum though! Thanks for that, and for putting a message in the wish book and in my birthday book:) Honestly, I don't have a preference when it comes to what I write about. I always come up with the music first for a song, and then start singing a melody. Words just come out of nowhere when I'm singing (which is handy) and that usually dictates what the song is going to be about. Looking at all my new material now, I have to say for the most part I don't write about myself too much, mostly about bigger ideas that we can all relate to. I have thought about writing a book, hopefully one day I'll get the time to do so. I could write about all my crazy adventures on tour! Let's see… when I'm down, music is usually what comforts me. I also like to love on my sweet cats or just drive around and chill out. I also have become extremely into golf. Golf courses are really beautiful and calming and I like getting away from music once in a while. Thanks for the questions and I'm sure we'll get the chance to meet next year when I go back on tour! I'll be looking for you;) All the love…

Priscilla from The Brazilian Street Team - I watched Sin City last week (I know, we're really behind on that one :P), and in the middle of this whole comic book mania I wondered if you ever were a fan of comic books and movies related to that. My older brother loves this stuff, so I grew up with it, despite the fact that I was never really that much of a fan. But lately, the movies and/or tv shows inspired by comic books have been really good. Sin City was a little too violent for my taste, but I still liked it, and Batman Begins was awesome. I still have to watch Fantastic Four, but everyone I know loved it. Daredevil was really good too, even though it was released a while ago, and not just because The Calling was on the soundtrack ;) So, my question would be if you ever read comics, and even if you didn't, do you like the movies inspired by them? Thanks for taking the time to answer this! Love always, Priscilla

Alex - Priscilla! How are you? A birdie told me it was your birthday…so Happy Birthday! I'm really looking forward to coming back to Brazil next year…I really miss you guys and the playing to those amazing crowds over there! Anyway, to answer your question, I did collect comic books when I was younger. And my favorite one's were Spider Man. I'm a huge Spider Man fan and I thought both movies did the old comic hero justice. I do think these days the film business is getting a little overwhelmed by super hero movies…but, I guess people just can't get enough of them. I'm more of a fan of the offbeat "super hero" movies like The Matrix and Sin City. Sin City was really violent, but it was done in such a different and artistic way, that it was almost like watching a comic book come to life. Well, thanks for the questions, and I'll see you soon! Happy Birthday again! All the love…

Debbie - I know in the past you have used Studio Musicians on your albums. Since you have developed such a great friendship with the last touring members of TC and they are hugely talented musicians, is there a chance they may record on your new album with you. Or are there certain advantages to using studio musicians. I just know all of us die-hard fans would be thrilled to see Justin, Chops, Corey and Daniel on your new record.

Alex - Good question! We've always used studio musicians in The Calling because they are older and trained to be perfect right away in the studio, which saves time and money. But for my solo album, I am going to try my best to use my band on the record as much as possible. We have all become good friends and I think they would do an amazing job in the studio. Ultimately that decision comes down to the producer, the label, the manager, and me…so there's lots of politics involved like usual! Hey, that's the music business for you…too many cooks in the kitchen! Thanks for the question. All the love…

JULY 18, 2005

Nina from Las Vegas: - Hi Alex! Hope you're doing okay. I'm Nina, and I absolutely love your music, and it's really helped me through the toughest time in my life. I went to the Vegas concert (the girl with the crazy blue skirt you took a picture with), and I was so lucky to have gone to see you! My question is about the album you are working on now. I really love the song "Hold On To You" (thanks to you and Debbie for sharing it with all of us!) and I know the song has special meaning with how it came to be, and I think it would be so wonderful if we could hear it all the time! Is there any chance that "Hold On To You" might sneak its way onto your next album or maybe a future album? It's just such a very special song, and I think it would be awesome if it were on the track list! Thank you so much for your time, and I hope your next album is a big success. I wish you the very best of luck on your solo career and I hope you keep making awesome music!

Alex - Hey Nina! Glad to hear you got to catch our show in Vegas! It was definitely a random place we played, but I was lucky to have good fans like you there to support us for those last shows. So, I agree, "Hold On To You" is a great song and I would love to have it on the record…the problem is I've written over 20 songs in the last 5 months that are even better, so I don't know if it will make the cut! The decision of what songs make it to a record is made by the artist, the manager, the producer, and the label. We'll see what happens. I wanted Deb to give you guys that song cause it IS so special to me…special enough that I want it to be hard to find, not sold in stores to the masses. Anyway, thanks again for coming to our show and I hope to see you next year on tour! All the love….

Karima in France - First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY again! Hope you had a great one! *sends loads of crepes love* Time flies so fast, but your music is eternal and utterly inspirational. Speaking of music and inspiration, I was wondering how you got inspired by the School shootings of 1999 to write a song like "One By One", "another child, another soul, grabs a hold -- To the metal that will end his misery" are such powerful lines, the tone and lyrics of that song are perfect. I love it. ;) I wanted to know more about the song's background so I watched Michael Moore's "Bowling For Columbine" documentary and I realized how much guns are part of the US culture but also how different it is from ours. I am so scared of every kind of arms I could not even touch one, but you guys in the US seem to all have at least one gun or shotgun in every house. Kind of scary if you ask me, but this is quite understandable from your point of view. However, I can't imagine you with a gun for some reason... So, I'd love to know what you think about gun control in general. Oh and one more question... :) How are YOU? Hope life treats you well! Take care, we are behind you and love you! Good luck on the solo career -- you'll make it! *hugs* Karima PS: Come back soon to Paris!!! PSS: Uh... Come back to Paris!!! *puppy look* haha

Alex - Yay! Crepe love! Hey Karima, how are you? I'm doing very well thank you. I miss France and my French Street Team though:( No worries, I'll be back early next year with new music! So, to answer your question, I am extremely against guns…I would never own one, I don't want anyone else to have them, and after I shot one once at Corey's Family's ranch, I knew I never wanted to do it again. Our Country is very screwed up when it comes to gun control..and if it were up to me, I would take every gun away from every person here. I remember writing "One by One" after watching a school shooting happen on the news, it wasn't Columbine though, it was a different incident a few years before. Nothing nearly as extreme as Columbine, but I think one or two kids died, and that's way more than enough for me. Honestly, I don't remember sitting there and writing that song, it was like 8 years ago, but I do remember I did it in about 20 minutes. I find the best songs always come out that quick when you're not even thinking, only pouring your heart out on the page. I'll see you next year! All the love…

Ola from Poland - Hey! it's Ola here :) How are you?:) I love motorcycles so i would like to ask you about yours. What was your first motorcycle and how old you were? Have you ever got really scary moment ridding on it? I read that you have got Ducati 998, you lucky guy! :) You also have a Ferrari, two cool machines, so which one you prefer to drive? motorcycle or car? As i said, i love motors too, especially sports one. I don't have my own now, but as soon as it possible i will get it and roads will be mine! :D Have a good fun riding on it and be careful :) Maybe one day i will come to your concert on my moto, so we will talk about it a little :) Greetings from Polish fans! :) See you:)

Alex - Awesome! A Polish fan that likes cars and motorcycles! You rock! I need to come to Poland one day. So, to answer your question about my history with motorcycles, it started in Italy when I was a little kid. In the US you have to be 16 to drive anything, but in Italy, 14 was the legal age for small motorcycles, so I of course immediately got one there at my family's vacation house. The first time I took it out on the main highway, I was hit from behind by a car at 60mph. I got thrown back onto the hood of the car, smashed in the windshield and then got thrown into the street. I still have scars all over my back and on my upper arms. I was lucky to survive. Needless to say, it was the worst experience I've ever had…and you think I wouldn't want to get on one of those things ever again right? Ha! That just made me more interested to learn more about ridding motorcycles safer, and…faster! The first real bike I bought here in Los Angeles was 5 years ago, it was a Ducati Monster. It was awesome. Two years ago I upgraded to a Ducati 998, which is pretty much just a rocket that you hold onto for dear life. Sadly, two months ago my wife decided she didn't want me to die, so she made me sell it. So, now I have no motorcycle :( BUT! I did end up making a compromise and getting a new car. That's right, no more Ferrari. I upgraded to a brand new black on black Lamborghini. My wife calls it "The Spaceship". It's by far the most ridiculous and impractical car on the planet, but, you know me! Anyway, thanks for the questions and send my love to all the Polish fans!

Debbie in NY...I don't think you know her ;) - I know you are working hard on the new CD and what I've heard sounds amazing. Do you already have a single picked out from what you have written so far? How do you choose a single or does the label dictate what it should be. I think any of the songs I heard would be great singles, but I have two in mind that I think would do particularly well. I'm curious to see if you have the same thoughts. Whatever you do , just HURRY! We can't wait.

Alex - Hey Debbie! Nice to meet you;) There is no single picked yet. The good news? The label thinks I have tons of them, so we're gonna wait until I'm finishing them up in the studio to pick the right one to go with first. A single is chosen by the artist, the label, and the manager, but there are many other bizarre factors that come into play. For instance, they take the "best" songs and have them tested by computers and by random people to see which one is most "single" worthy. I usually never agree with what these things say, but I also usually never have much of a choice! Bottom line? All the songs are gonna kick ass, but the first one that the world hears has got to kick the most ass the quickest…and it will. All the love….

JUNE 26, 2005

Since the big news in Alex's life right now is his new solo career, we thought we would do a short interview on that subject instead of the normal questions and answers for the month of June. The regular questions will be back next month. So here is Alex's FIRST exclusive interview as a solo artist. Please leave the english version of this interview on my site but I don't have a problem with it being translated into different languages and put on your international sites. Just please credit me and my site. Thanks!

Debbie -Can you tell us what the musical style will be and will it be much different than what we are used to from you?

Alex - The musical style of my solo record will be similar to what you're all use to hearing from The Calling, but different at the same time. The songs are as deep and powerful, but the sound will be more exploratory, a departure from the giant rock anthemic vibe of The Calling. Expect to hear a lot of string arrangements and orchestral sounds.

Debbie - Do you have any idea of a possible release date for your solo CD?

Alex - My new label and I are planning on having my solo record finished by the end of the year and out first quarter of 06.

Debbie - What will happen with the various Street Teams that are already in place in so many countries around the world? I know they still want to support you in your solo venture.

Alex - Since The Calling is on a break, I am hoping the Streetteams already in place around the world will open up an Alex Band division or site and work with my new label just like they have in the past.

Debbie - Can you tell us yet who your new label is with? Will they be setting up a website for you under the name of alexband.com?

Alex - I will have a new website up shortly with my new label @ alexband.com or alexband.net. It's still a secret who I'm signing with. I'll let you all know soon, I promise!

Debbie - Will you have any input in the design and content of the official website, because as you know your official website for tcb.com was just not the greatest.

Alex - I will most definitely have a lot of input on the design and running of my new website. Much more so than with thecallingband.com. I want to make it a friendly and inviting atmosphere where everyone can come together all over the world and get every video and audio detail of my professional life.

Debbie - Will you be writing with anyone else for this new record or will it mostly be just you?

Alex - I have written most of the songs on my new record, but I have also cowritten with some very talented people...you'll see!

Debbie - Are you as excited as we are??

Alex - I am even MORE excited than you guys, you have no idea! All the Love......

MAY 28, 2005

Mati (Italian Street Team Leader) - Hi Alex! How are things with the restaurant at the castle? I've heard from an italian girl that it has been closed. Is that true? I hope you/your father didn't because that was such a cool idea.. and i still have to go there. It can't be closed before i go and taste the food ;) And i wanted to ask you.. if you had a time travel machine, in what historical period would you like to live? Next and last question is.. If you'd be sent to hell, what song would be played over and over again? Hope to see you soon here in Italy. Ciao :) Matilde

Alex - Ciao Matilde! It's good to hear form you! I miss Italy like crazy. I'm actually coming there the end of next month for one day…I was invited to Versace's fashion show. It is true that the restaurant at the castle is closed:( It was soooo beautiful and the food was incredible, but it's in the middle of nowhere and wasn't attracting enough people. It's sad. Anyway, on to the questions: If I had a time machine, I would go into the future, not the past. I know the past already. However, if I was only able to go to the past, I would probably go back to day one….granted I would be very alone, I would get to see how this planet really started and who or what put us here. OK…If I were sent to hell, there would be many songs playing, pretty much every single one that's on top 40 radio right now! But all time worst?…that horrible song by the band "Las Ketchup", Ricky Martin's "Living La Vida Loca", anything by the artist "Shaggy"….I could go on and on. Anyway, thank you for the questions and I hope to see you again soon! Thank you for running such an awesome Street Team! All the love….

Karen and The South African Street Team - Did you have any vocal training, and if so, form what age. Also, how do you prepare your voice for a show and how long before the show do you prepare, if at all. Thank you for your beautiful music. The South African Street Team works hard to get you guys air time here. Just know that we love you guy's and we love the music! Thanks for bringing us such inspirational beautiful music Alex!

Alex - I know all about the South African Street Team and how great of a job you guys have done. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just hope I get to come there one day and meet you all. So, let's see…did I have any vocal training? Not really. I started singing when I was around two for fun. And then at age 8 I really got into it. When I was first signed to RCA at 15, they had me go to a vocal teacher for a few sessions to learn how to warm up my voice and keep from straining it. That was very helpful then and still is to this day. To warm up for a show now, I actually have a recording of one of those lessons from 9 years ago that I listen to an hour before I go on stage. It's mostly running scales and weird noises that make me sound like a freak and all the band guys make fun of me! I've gotten use to it by now though, and so have they. Thanks for the questions and all the love to you and all at The South African Street Team!

Penelope - . Hey Alex! Here's Pénélope from France :) hope you're fine (well...we actually saw on the Easter pix that you were..'fine'......is it really the word? haha, just kidding, the pictures rock ;) ! I dunno if you remember the box you got last time you were in Paris to do a show in October, with a Chef's hat for Aaron and stuff..:), anyway there was a French CD with all the songs that are 'fashionable' in France at the moment but also some classics (especially rock ones), joined to a book with all lyrics translated into English too. So,as you said you didn't know French music very well & what it was talking about, I just wanted to know what do you think now (about the lyrics, melodies, singers' voices,etc...) ? :) You're a kind of 'news addicted man' as you told us, so I think you're aware of what's being done musically all over the world and could have quite an interesting point of view about that! Hehe,so...is France like ahead of its time? Oldfashioned? France rules *puts her sunglasses* ) ?!Ha ha...Thanks a lot for answering my question & really hope to see you soon in France with all the new stuff,so 'A bientôt' & 'Merci' again ;)! Xxxx

Alex - Bonjour Pénélope! You live in the land of crepes! The greatest land of them all! I do remember receiving and listening to your CD of French music. Thank you for that! It's hard for me to really appreciate rock music when some of it is being sung in another language, cause I have no clue what they're singing about!…but, I must say, I really enjoyed a lot of that CD. I didn't like all of it, it was mostly the older classics that I liked the most. I would say France is right with the times, not ahead or behind….although, everything always comes out LAST in France. Movies, music, books. But I guess that's a good thing, because you guys take your time to filter through all the crap and let mostly only the right stuff be seen or heard. Anyway, thanks for the questions and the CD! I'm looking forward to coming back to France next year and play more shows. Au revoir!

Dayana - I can't belive that my question arrived until you! It is very dificult to write in few lines everything what the band means for me!! I love The Calling !!I very much admire its way to treat the calling fans, this is the reason of you to be more special for me!! I and my sister we are waiting for new the calling concert here in brazil! we hope to find you and that you have an excellent concert in the month of June!! I love you so! Thank You for everything, God bless you take care!=) Dayana - Rio De Janeiro My question is: Alex, if you could i have defined your life in 3 words , what would be>> Thanks, Kisses, Dayana

Alex - Dayana! Don't worry, I will be back in Brazil next year with a whole new and exciting show. I miss it there! So, to answer your question….My life in three words? Crazy, Challenging, and Amazing. All the love….

APRIL 28, 2005

Angie - As someone who wants to work in the music business, and specifically for a record label, what would you say is the worst thing about dealing with label politics? Also what is the best way into this type of job.~Angie (the blonde girl from the front row of the Viper Room) Orlando, FL

Alex - Hey Angie:) Good to hear from you! Wow, the worst thing about dealing with label politics? Well, everything I'd say. Music is art, but once money is involved it becomes a business that you have to deal with and that can make the art start to seem secondary after a while. It's pretty much this simple…you do not make the choices, you do not run your career. At best you are constantly compromising, at worst, which is most of the time, you are giving in to what your label wants. There's way more going on than just creating your music and selling it to the world. There's timing, who else the label is working at the same moment, what radio is playing in each country when you go out, and how much money will be put behind you. Without a whole lot of money and push, it is nearly impossible to have success. So, I guess if you're looking to work in the music business, I would say PLEASE remember the artist, even if it means going against your superiors. Good luck and all the love…

Jenna - Hey Alex. Wow, I can't believe I have been given this opportunity. Thanks to Debbie for letting me ask this question. Anyway, my question is this. I know that you and the band have have the tradition that you all hold up 6 before you go on stage, I was wondering is there anything that you do to prepare yourself for a live show? Like do you say a prayer or just get really excited? Also are there any songs by any other artists that you would like to perform at one of your shows? Also What is your favourite song that you play live and also what song do you find the crowd enjoys the most? Thanks for everything you do for us all. Can't wait to hear the new songs that you and Aaron are working on. Good luck with everything. With love and best wishes, Jenna UK. xx

Alex - The "put your 6's up" thing makes no sense and I guess that's what makes it fun! I personally don't have any kind of ritual before I go on stage except the obvious stuff, like warming up my voice, stretching, getting excited, etc. I love performing songs from other artists at our shows…especially songs from my favorite band, U2. Their songs speak to me like no others. My favorite Calling song to play live recently has been Stigmatized. With an added crazy intro and a whole new section at the end…the song turns into a 7 minute long epic that makes it's way through every high and low. I find that that is one of the crowd's favorites. Thanks for the questions Jenna, and I hope to see you soon on tour in the UK. All the love…

Gennelin - Hey there alex! Im gennelin from the philippines .Well,I've been thinking of good questions to ask but it seems like i ended up with some silly ones. But I'll ask you anyway. First off, You have received awards from different award shows, but is there still any award that you would like to receive? If there is, what would that be? What do you think of journalists? Because im planning to become one but I've been hearing a lot of negative opinions from celebrities. I promise to make good reviews hehe. Lastly, I've been keeping all my excess allowance just in case you come here, I'll have the first front-row tickets! You'll surely enjoy your stay here (we wont let you suffer from any hotel or stomach ache problems)!!! That's it! thanks for reading and hope you'll answer them Your friend and fan--- gennelin--- philippines - (p.s. our country has the 3rd largest nuber of calling fans all over the worl based on my research... hehe)

Alex - Gennelin! I am wanting so badly to come to the Philippines one day…I really hope they send us there some time! Anyway, the one award that would mean a lot to me to win, or even just be nominated for, would be a Grammy. We haven't really won any credible awards in our home country, and that one is the cream of the crop, so hopefully one day I'll have one. Glad to hear you're thinking of becoming a journalist, they're very important in my business. A celebrity will give a negative opinion of journalists when they write negative things about the celebrity…makes sense. I've read tons of negative reviews about myself, but it doesn't get me down and it doesn't make me hate the journalist. I think the most important thing for a journalist is not to just write positive reviews, it's to speak from your heart and say how you really feel about someone's work. It's one opinion among billions. And everyone is entitled to their opinion. Keep saving your allowance cause I will be coming to the Philippines one day…I know it. And I'll see you there. All the love…

Ale - Hey Alex, how are you & your family, I hope everything's fine...so my question is...Have you ever thought about directing your own video clip??? Maybe it's a stupid question, but I'm curious!!! Anyway, I wish you and Jen all the best . Take care, all the love, hugs and kisses... Ale (ale88) from Mexico

Alex - Hey Ale from Mexico! I miss Mexico…we only got to visit there two short times, but we'll be back! Thanks for asking about my family:) The person who needs the transplant is doing well for now, but they still haven't had the surgery yet…so we'll see. Anyway, I have thought about directing my own video clip, and I'm sure I'll do so at some point when I have the power. But that's not my forte. I'll leave it up to the professionals for now. I created and helped direct the "Anything" video and thought it turned out pretty well, but I heard mixed reviews, so what do I know? Anyway, YOU take care too and I hope to see you soon on tour. All the love….

MARCH 28, 2005

Jenny - Hey Alex, I love the second record and I often think about the lyrics and their meanings because I know that every song has been written for a special reason. I wondered if the song "Your Hope" came into being from your own (or maybe a friend's) experience or if you wrote it to keep desperate people from commiting suicide. It's a great song with a unique power in it but I think no song can help anyone who really decided to die - he or she wouldn't change his or her mind after listening to these lyrics (belive me, I know what I'm talking about)... I'd like to know what that song is about and how you do think about what I suggested...
and there's something that I want you to know... In Germany there's a youth music magazine called "YAM" that I wrote a big article for. They totally ignored all the success The Calling had last year and how important 2004 has been - not only for single band members (like your wedding) but also the band's career, of course. The article I wrote was not this teenie-kind of "I-am-so-frustratet-that-you-did-not-only-write-about-my-favorite-band-and-so-I-burn-all-your-magazines"-article but a quality and objective one which caused that there was a poster (a pretty old picture - which you can learn from that they just looked quickly in their archives for a RANDOM photo - just to satisfy ;) ) and the promise that they're going to write more about The Calling from now on right in the next "YAM"-magazine one week later! Yay! -I didn't do that because I wanted to have a reason to show off or something but because I loved it (I'm going to be a journalist) and because I know that you set great store by being in media (that's always helpful to make a new single becoming a hit)... ;) Thank you so much for reading and answering! Love always, Jenny (from the Australian Sreetteam)

Alex - Hello Jenny in Australia! Man, I miss it over there! Glad to hear you like the second record so much. I do agree that a song can't single handedly make someone not commit suicide, but it if it's powerful enough and the person connects with it on a deep level, it is possible that it could help (believe me, I know what I'm talking about too!). That song however was not written about suicide really…it was written about a friend who was totally lost in the world, he had no direction, he tried to be anybody but himself, and then he got wrapped up in drugs to melt it all away…bad idea. It's a song about not losing your hope, obviously, but it's also a warning song…and "I've been there before, don't let yourself go down this road" type of song. Thank you so much for writing such a great letter to Yam and influencing them to support The Calling more. I wish you all the best with becoming a journalist…please; just give me good reviews only! ;) Thanks for the questions! All the love…

Agnes - Hey Alex. There are too many questions I'd like to ask, so I decided to just ask the german "my fave drug" messageboard members to suggest some questions and to decide in a vote which one I should ask you. Well the majority wanted to know if you ever thought about doing a "on tour with The Calling" video (like the "in studio with TC") and offer it as a DVD in the TC shop. Since you guys always run around with a camera, we all are really curious what it is you are filming there ;) And there is another question that was close to winning: could you imagine writing a song for the soccer championship 2006 and what would it be/sound like. I'm glad I got the opportunity to ask you *hugs to Debbie*, so thanks for taking the time to answer *hugs to you*! Love, Agnes from Germany

Alex - Hello Agnes! Hugs to you too;) I have always wanted to do a tour DVD for The Calling, but there have been too many political roadblocks that have gotten in the way. It's sad too, cause I have so much awesome footage from the last 4 years that I would love to share with you all. Hopefully one day I will be able to. I never stop trying. I would love to write a song for the soccer championship 2006…hopefully they'll use a song off the next record. "Our Lives" was the perfect kind of sports song, so I'm assuming a song for the soccer championship would be along the same lines. Thanks for the questions. All the love!

Pedro - Hey Alex! How are you? My name is Pedro and I'm the new member of Brazilian Street Team (By the way, all the guys are saying hello!) My question is what do you think about that shows such as "American Idol" and "Making The Band"? Do you think this kind of artists are supposed to have a long-time career or if it's just a "one hit wonder" career that would only happen to fill blanks between the most expected releases and so people have more gossips to read on magazines and tabloids about the new so-called celebrities? Thanks for answering and I hope to see you soon in Brazil!

Alex - Hello Pedro in Brazil! I miss Brazil so much…maybe I should go there on vacation? Tell all the members of the Brazilian Street Team I say hi! Anyway, I don't mind the shows like American Idol and Making The Band, I actually watch American Idol because I think it's funny and interesting. There's a place for those shows in the entertainment business, just like there's a place for The Calling…do I think we have anything to do with each other? Not at all. To take someone who can kind of sing, give them a record deal, give them a hot image, and then give them a hit single is CREATING an artist…not finding a true one. Now I'm not saying that there aren't people on these shows with real talent, cause there have been some really talented singers that have come from American Idol, like Kelly Clarkson…I'm just saying that I see it as entertainment…nothing more. It doesn't move me like real music, it doesn't inspire me like a real artist, but it has its place, and it's fun to watch. You can never predict the length of career one of these people will have, but from what I've seen so far, they seem extremely short. But again, there will always be exceptions to that. Thanks for the questions Pedro and I hope to see YOU soon in Brazil too! All the best…

Guess Who? Your Favorite Pain...Debbie - Aside from reading your countless emails and conducting business, what else do you surf the net for? Any favorite websites or places you love to visit for say, online shopping or news?

Alex - Oh no! My favorite pain! Are you my favorite? Or just my pain? No, I'm kidding;) So, let's see, what else do I surf the net for?…Looking at cars, downloading car images, drooling on my keyboard, going to other band's websites, reading their forums, seeing what they're up to, going to radioandrecords.com each week to watch who's going up in the charts and who's coming down, BUYING lots of music, movies, videogames, and mostly news news news. I am crazy into the news. The first thing I do when I wake up is go online and read all the news all over the world. I am fascinated mostly by the weird and interesting things that happen in our world each day, more so than all the political crap and the inevitable mass dying everywhere…but I do read that too. Everyone around me knows I'm the newsman, so they come to me to find out what's new. Thanks for the question! All the love…

FEBRUARY 20, 2005

Amber - Hey Alex!! How are things with you?! Great I hope.. my question is inspired by the holidays, actually. What is your best memory of Christmas? And if you could give ALL of your fans one thing for Christmas, what would it be? I hope you had a really nice Christmas.. and Happy New Year!! Can't wait until the US tour! See ya soon, and you're the best! xoxo Amber - Pa.

Alex - Hey Amber! I can't wait for the US tour either….and I wish THAT IT WAS HAPPENING…but so is life:( On that note, to answer one of your questions, I would give my fans a never-ending tour around the entire world for Christmas if I could…or at least the US fans, that's for sure! And let's see…my best memory of X-mas would be when I was nine. Granted it was a crappy X-mas cause my dog bit my face off the night before, but I was on so much drugs the day after, everything was just…funny. My Dad picked me up from the hospital X-mas morning to bring me back to the house where all my extended family was waiting. None of them had seen me since the big accident the day before, so they were worried. My Dad, being the devilishly clever guy he is, thought it would be funny to completely wrap my entire head up like a mummy in bandages to scare the crap out of everybody…so we did it! Man, that was some funny sh*t. My family was still upset to see the true extent of my injuries, but they were totally relieved when I pulled all the bandages off to reveal I wasn't quite that massacred! Anyway, I hope to see you soon on tour…I'm working hard to get back out there ASAP! All the love…

Bianca - Hi Alex! My absolute favourite song from Two is Believing. I love the lyrics, they're just amazing! I was wondering what exactly the song is about. It's pretty obvious that it's about believing in yourself, but what i'm always curious about is the reason that made you write the song. Was there a particular reason or situation in your life that made you and Aaron write this song? It's such a great powerful song, i think it would do great as a single.. (hint hint!!) ;) Thanks for answering! Love, Bianca, Holland.

Alex - Hi Bianca! Glad to hear you like the song "Believing"…it's one of my favorites too. That song's creation actually has an interesting story: 4 years ago, right when we were hitting big with Camino Palmero, we were asked to write the theme song for a new TV show called "Jeremiah". The show was about a plague that kills everyone in the world over the age of 21, leaving only children to run our planet (not like there's much difference!). Anyway, it starred these two kids (Luke Perry was one of them) who were the "chosen" ones to lead the crime-ridden planet back into normalcy. They were just regular kids though and that was a big job. "Believing" was the song we wrote for that show. The show ran on Showtime for a little over a year, but was then canceled. They never ended up using the song we wrote though, cause we didn't want them to have it! It was too good to give away for a TV show and not put it on our next record for you guys! Anyway, thanks for the questions and all the love to you!

Denise - hi alex! first off, congratulations on the new album. it's amazing, there are hardly words. my favorite song on the album is "Things Will Go My Way" and even before i read it in DEb mom's website, i knew exactly what the song meant to you and Aaron. Thank you for writing such a beautiful and inspiring song. It gives hope to people like me who sometimes forget that someday things WILL go our way.
After listening constantly to both CP and TWO, i've come to the conclusion that THE CALLING is all about inspiring people through their songs. was it a conscious effort in your part as songwriters to focus on inspirational/ socially relevant songs? i've noticed that you and Aaron hardly write love songs. Love songstend to be more mainstream and i respect that your songs are more meaningful. There are only a few like ANYTHING and SWEET SUMMER, but they are outnumbered by the inspirational songs. How come?
I hope my question made sense to you. It certainly did in my head. Let me just say that the reason i love your songs and music is because it's all about the good things in life: hope, dreams and, of course, love. Rock on! Denise - Philipines

Alex - Denise! It's good to hear from you again. I hope you're doing well:) So, I don't think it's a conscious thing that we write songs mostly about inspiration and social relevance…it's just almost always comes out that way. Since before I even met Aaron and I was writing songs alone, they all had that positive feeling and so did the songs Aaron was writing…so, put us together and you get an album like "Two". I think music is there to bring the world together and make people FEEL…it's one of the only universally accepted common threads we all share. Thanks for the question and you keep on keeping on! All the love…

JiYoung - Hi Alex. Wow. I can't believe to get a chance to ask you a question. Thanks to Debbie. I was wondering what you have an impression about Korea in your memory. How did you feel after the show in Korea? I was so happy to see you and to hear your voice. I hope you have a good impression of Korea. I hope you know that you have many Korean fans who love you. I'm sure that you already know it. I expect that you visit Korea again with full band. I hope you are happy and stay healthy...Thank you... JiYoung

Alex - I absolutely LOVED Korea. I've always wanted to go there and it was truly a thrill to experience it…I'm looking very forward to coming back one day and playing full shows and just getting more time to spend with the fans. I've always been a fan of Korean food, so that was one of the highlights for me…actually being able to eat REAL Korean food, in Korea, wow. I never know what to expect going to a new country…I hear we've had success here and there, but I never know just HOW well we've done until I show up. I was totally blown away by the reception we had there! That one signing we did for 2,000 kids was completely off the wall! I've never heard so many screams...and received so many cool gifts. So yah, Korea was awesome and I'm definitely coming back some day soon. Thanks for the question and I wish you the best. All the love…

JANUARY 12, 2005

Brandy - Alex, I love to look back through photos and stuff from 2 and 3 years ago. I still can't believe it's been that long since the first time I ever saw TC play a show. So much has happened over those years for you, but I have to say the one thing that really jumps out in my memory is you being reunited with your birth mother. Simply reading the album thank you's from Camino Palmero to Two shows the things you've overcome in that situation. I know in today's society with divorce rates so high that so many kids have to deal with similar things, and I was wondering at what point did you realize it was time to forgive and forget? I also want to say thanks for being so candid all the time and letting us examine you under this microscope called fame. You truly do deserve all the happiness you've given the fans returned to you 100-fold. Thanks so much! Brandy from VA

Alex - Hey Brandy! Good to hear from you;) Things have changed drastically for the better between my Mom and I over the last few years. You can definitely pick that up from my Thank You's on the last two Calling records like you said. After she left me when I was 8 and moved to Germany, I spent the next 4 or 5 years trying to keep in touch with her, but it was just too hard and I was really hurt from it all. A number of different things eventually happened that brought me to end all contact with her completely. Fast forward 7 to 8 years and I was having all the success globally with Camino Palmero...visiting Germany many times on tour. In mid 2002, I surprisingly received a letter through various people from her. It totally broke me down. It said how her and her kids (who I really didn't even know) had been tracking my progress with my band, reading the tour diaries, listening to the record, going to shows, etc. She was so proud of me that I had actually achieved my lifelong dream. While reading the letter there was this feeling I got...like how stupid is this that my own mother has to read about me online to know what's happening in my life, and watch me on TV to see how much my face has changed from a little boy into a man? It was just wrong. And that was it. I called her soon after and on my following European tour, she came out with me for a few days through multiple countries...it was SO weird seeing her after so long, and having her on tour with me was even weirder! I can't go into details, but I learned more about what was happening in her mind back when she left me...what kind of bad crap she was going through...and I understood her decision, finally. I just needed to grow up to really see it.

Josie - Hello! Alex, hope you are feeling good and happy? I feel honoured being asked to submit a question to you, Thanks to Debbie! First, Thank you for taking the time to sign 'The Star Lounge' CD to me, it came as a most unexpected surprise gift, from The_Calling_ Mom! With you having visited the UK several times, while touring and every show being a stunning magical moment, Thank you for coming to the UK! I know Los Angeles is your home, and how much you love living there + you have your Vacation home in Florida, Quite a few well known Singers like Madonna, Bryan Adams, & Darren Hayes, because of their success in the UK, with one thing and another, e. g, working with different producers and with the quick turn over in the music industry, have bought there own Apartments in the UK as another home to stay in whilst in the UK, has this ever crossed your mind, to own an apartment in London? Also do you have a Favourite Restaurant/fast food place you like to Dine at in the UK? and what do you think of the quality of food and service you get? the reason why I'm asking this is because, when we are in the USA on holidays, dining out, We find the service so much better than the UK, everyone appears to be more happy, Polite & friendly, with good quality food, and so plentiful, that my husband and I end up having to share one meal....hehe. Thank you Alex, for taking the time to read and answer my questions. Here's wishing you & Jen a wonderful Christmas & happy new year!

Alex - Josie, I love the UK, London is one of my favorite stops on our tours through the world. Buying a place there has crossed my mind, but isn't in the cards just yet. I still have a lot of work to do, especially in the UK, to be able to afford a third house! About restaurant service over there...well, you said it! The service in all of Europe is pretty bad compared to the US...and it's no surprise we have giant portions here, look at the size of most Americans! I can never finish what I order here. With that being said, the portions and food quality in Europe is far superior than the US. You guys don't put so much bad artificial genetically altered crap in your food and you actually serve the right amount of food. My favorite fast food place to eat at in the UK is this chicken place...I totally forgot the name of it though!..."Nanking" or something? Anyway, thanks for the questions, and I hope to see you soon!

Jess - Hey Alex! Hope you're well; I have a few silly questions out of pure curiosity. If you could pick any song you have ever written and write and direct a video for it, which song would you chose and what would the main concepts be? Also, is there any hope in me persuading you to play Unstoppable again in future set lists? :) The new band is sounding incredible it would be great to hear some older material in this formation. Have a really good holiday, eat lots! Many thanks Jess Biscoe - The Calling Multimedia

Alex - Jess, I first just wanted to thank you for keeping up such a great website for us! You've done an awesome job. And your questions aren't silly! So, let's see...I actually just did what your first question asked. I used the song I wrote for Jennifer (Hold On To You) and made a crazy compilation video of our wedding, our honeymoon, and when I proposed to her (I had a hidden camera film it!). I gave it to her for Christmas. It took me months to edit it all, but in the end it really turned out great and she loved it. About playing Unstoppable again live, I'm sure we will at some point...it's still one of my favorite songs from the first record. No matter where the future may take me, there will be songs that I'll never stop playing live and Unstoppable is one of them! Thanks for the questions. All the love!

Debbie - I've done tons of research into interviews and articles on song meanings and I have all the songs covered from Camino Palmero except "Thank You". There are no references to that song in any interviews. Can you give us a little insight into that song and what it means to you. I also think you should add that one back in your live set, it was always a favorite of mine during the 2001/2002 touring days. You might as well just add them all back in ;)

Alex - Calling Mom, You mean there's something you don't know about me and The Calling?! ;) Well, "Thank You" is about being thankful for what you have, of course! Stepping away from all the bullshit and really being thankful to whoever or whatever has given us all the little things that we get to enjoy each day. In a similar concept as "Our Lives", we all get wrapped up in that never ending fast paced world with that "I want more, I want more" attitude. This song is about getting away from that frame of mind. "Come around and see the other side, ....... stepping stones away from the limelight... Come around, and breathe in piece of mind, and for it all, I thank you."

NOVEMBER 28, 2004

Karin - I just got back from a week in sunny LA and this may seem like a silly question but…how the hell do you drive there? The roads suck, people are insane and what is the deal with parking on both sides of an already too small street?!?!? Oh and my favorite the stop signs on big hills?!?!? (I purposely wouldn't drive up La Cieniega even though our hotel was right there.) I don't know how many times I thought Leslie and I were going to crash into something or someone. (I'm a very good driver BTW.) We "toured" the Hollywood Hills (you know you aren't on the map jk)and all I could think is Alex must be insane to drivea Ferrari up here. I'm renting a Mini next time we come. HUGS, Karin

Alex - Hey Karin! I know! Los Angeles is home to probably the biggest collection of ridiculously expensive cars...yet it also has the worst road conditions, the worst traffic, and the worst drivers than anywhere! Although, as soon as you cross the Atlantic, you will see a whole other level of crappy car conditions...the roads winding through London, Rome, Paris, you name it, are so small and congested that it makes LA seem like a giant empty parking lot at Disneyland! It's true, I am crazy to drive a Ferrari around LA, especially since a 16 year old girl just crashed into me while she was taking a picture of me driving in it...she cried and cried...and I cried and cried..not really, but it was sad to see the back of my car destroyed with little chunks of red Ferrari stuck to the front of her Jeep Wrangler:( She got her picture, and an autograph though! I have a Mini Cooper too, red of course, a much more practical car for LA...but that one resides at my Florida house, where the roads are completely flat, wide open, and perfectly smooth. Maybe I should switch up? All the love...

Leslie - Alot of my friends know that I love B-horror movies. I was so surpirsed to find out that your dad was the producer/creator of some of my favorite movies like Puppetmaster Series, Demonic Toys, Trancers Series, and Subspecies.I was wondering what he is doing now, and if he is sitll making movies? I read somewhere that "Puppetmaster vs. Demonic Toys" is going to be made! If that is true, that would be awesome... that is a dream ccominbation for tons of FM fans out there! It's really hard to find any information about Fullmoon anymore..So I am hoping you can help me with that. PS- I can't wait to see TC again!! I hope all is well, and see you next time you come to NY/NJ area. Love, Leslie

Alex - Leslie, good to hear from you! My Dad is still at it, creating bizarre "direct to video" horror flicks on a daily basis. He just finished shooting one last week called "The GingerDead Man"...about a cookie that comes to life and kills everyone...yay! His company changed names from "Full Moon" to "Shadow Entertainment" a bunch of years ago. He took a break from it all for a while, but he's back at it now full force. Believe it or not, he made "Puppetmaster VS. The Demonic Toys" already, almost ten years ago! It's a good one, I recommend checking it out...if you can find it! My Dad has also just ventured into the women's clothing business with my Sister. They started a really cool high-end line called "Vanitas" which is starting to sell very well all over the country. Oh, and if you get the chance, go to "cinemaker.net"...My Dad just put this DVD series out that teaches you every step of how to create low budget movies, it's awesome. See you soon! All the love...

Anna - Hi Alex, It's Anna from the Australian Street Team here! Your music has touched so many lives over the years and many people have written about the positive effect that your music has had. I also have found your music to be incredibly uplifting and meaningful. My question is, Do you find there is a particular song from any band that has touched your life in this way? Thanks so much! anna :)

Alex - Hi Anna! I want to go back to Australia! It's so beautiful there! Hopefully we will soon, if the powers that be allow us to. So, to answer your question, yes, there have been many songs that have moved me the way my music affects others (it's still crazy for me to hear that my music means so much to so many people). Growing up, my Dad always listened to The Beatles. So there are a number of Beatles songs, "In My Life" especially, that bring back good and bad memories. But, if I had to pick one song, it would be "With Or Without You" by U2. That song has just summed it up for me on so many occasions, it's crazy! I've shed a lot of tears to that song, and not just in sadness. I have, and still can, put that song on at any moment and be totally inspired to write something amazing myself. Anyway, I'm sorry we haven't made our way over there yet Anna, I really am. Thank you for all your hard work and support to keep The Calling alive in your beautiful country...you're the best! I hope to see you soon! All the love...

Dave (Debbie's husband) - The song "Somebody Out There" has the lyric "She screams out loud , "Why's it happening to me and The answer is it's meant to be"....I'd like to know a little more about the philosophy behind that lyric. It sounds like you guys came to peace with something. It's a very powerful lyric. Can you give any insight into that.

Alex: Hello Dave! Glad to see it's not just your wife who listens to our music in the family...she must drive you crazy though! ;) No, no, you're a lucky guy:) Anyway, that's totally right what you said in your question; "Somebody Out There" for me was coming to peace with something, something dark, deeply rooted in my past. I was no "little girl" as the song states, but I was 5, 5 years old and being badly molested by an 18 year old kid who lived up the street from me. This went on for 2 horrible years until I finally broke down and told someone. I questioned everything; Why has this happened to me? What did I do to deserve this? I didn't know right from wrong, I was just a little kid. Now I can't tell you what happened afterwards, but the song kind of explains that in the verses. Lets just say, things have a strange way of presenting themselves to you later in life. Something like that can haunt you forever if you let it, but it can also teach you the most important thing...that everything happens for a reason, whether good or bad, things are meant to be, and there has got to be somebody out there who decides that. Even though I would love to kick that disgusting person in the face who did that to me, if they were still around, I would probably first shake their hand and say, "Thank you giving me the passion to write music."

OCTOBER 25, 2004

Debbie - Recently a song was discovered that you recorded for an independent movie that you also had a small part in. The name of the song is "Take Hold of Me". The only musical credits listed for the soundtrack are for Fuzzbee Morse. Did you write the song with him or is it his song. I also notice him in the thank yous on CP. Can you tell us a little about him and your relationship with him.

Alex - "Take Hold Of Me" was a song I wrote that I asked my old guitar teacher, Fuzzbee Morse to finish with me. It was for the little independent film I acted in last year...we did the song just for fun. It was a mistake that the only person on the writing credits listed on the movie's website was Fuzzbee, it should be both of our names. I started guitar lessons with Fuzzbe when I was 8 and continued them until I was 15 and got my record deal. He went to school with my Dad, my Mom, and my Uncle in Rome back in the 60's...they were all friends and kept in touch since. The most important thing that Fuzzbee did was not teach me how to play the guitar, he taught me how to write songs...and I owe him big time for that knowledge!

Debbie - Having found that treasure, are there any more hidden songs out there we are not aware of or any you might want to share in the future?

Alex - I don't think there are any more hidden songs like that out there now, but if you had my iPod you would find hundreds of unheard songs from today and the last 9 years that I've written with and without Aaron. Aaron and I are always writing songs together, for other people, or completely on our own, for films, TV, you name it...so there's bound to be more surfacing sometime in the future. No, you can not have my iPod! ;)

Debbie - The new members fit in so well and on stage you guys are really sounding and looking like a tight band. They are also featured in all the promo material. Since they are not signed members of The Calling is there fear that they will have to be replaced in future tours. Is this being handled differently than past touring members. What message would you like the fans to know and spread when asked about the touring members of the band.

Alex - The confusion surrounding The Calling when it comes to "band members" going and coming is understandable. We have made some mistakes in the past and will not be making them again. Creatively, The Calling has been and always will be only Aaron and I...we are the only two people signed to RCA, writing and producing the records, and running the business. When it comes to presenting our songs to the world, we have put together an amazing new band to tour with me who share in all the visual aspects of this group; playing shows, videos, pictures, TV, etc. The biggest difference between this new band and the band we had that left after the first record, is that these group of guys are better than we could have ever hoped for...we want to solidify them for the long term, the future career of The Calling. No more hiring musicians, or months of auditions, or confusion over who is coming or going. Now with that said, any band member of any band out there, no matter how it's structured or how they are attached, can leave the band if they choose to do so...it happens all the time. Obviously we have learned from our past and are dealing with all of this smarter these days...and I know that these guys love being in this band as much as I do and will continue to play with us and prosper as we hopefully grow in popularity around the world.

Debbie - The song "If Only" is such a beautiful song. Other than the obvious message of the song, can you tell us any more about what it means to you and what was going on when you and Aaron wrote the song.

Alex - "If Only" is an old song that Aaron and I wrote over 4 years ago. It was one of the many songs that didn't make it on our first record for one reason or the other. I remember being in a long relationship at the time where it was almost entirely based on sex...I wanted to love this person like they loved me, I tried to trick myself into believing I did, but you can't force that...so I had to end the relationship after 2 years. She was destroyed and I felt so horrible for putting her through that. I don't know where Aaron's inspiration for the song came from, but that's my story.
